Yearling with a big lesion on his head. Please help!!

I have a yearling snow. Friday I noticed a pale spot on his head and when I got home today and went in to feed him I saw the lesion was much darker and "raw" looking. Please help. I am not a snake breeder- this is my son's pet.

Note:
He always has good sheds and is in a very clean tank.
I use paper towels as substrate (recently switched from using aspen)
I do NOT use a heat lamp. I use a UTH for his warm side.
He is due to shed soon (his eyes are cloudy right now).
He has not escaped or been near anything that could have cut him.
His hide is a basic cave hide from a pet store and he also has a little mini-cereal box (cardboard) he likes to hide in.
He has not been scratching or rubbing his head on anything.
Temps are upper 70's. He is in a basement bedroom with good humidity.
He is in a 10 gallon glass critter cage with screened top.

I am not sure what is going on there. How long have you had her? Any chance she was bit by a mouse? I am almost afraid of what it might look like after she sheds. It might look better it might look worse. It almost looks like a scale was pulled off.
 
Thanks for the reply. No way he was bit by a mouse. I feed him frozen/ thawed. I have had him since last december (he was my son's gift from Santa)
 
Check the edges of the hide cave for rough spots. That looks like the scales were almost torn off. If he was burrowing under it, he may have caught his head on a sharp edge. You may want to take the cave out and use the cardboard box and a few paper towel tubes until this heals.

I had a female snag her head like on a sharp cage decoration. She healed fine with no problems. It took a good number of sheds, but now you can't even see a scar.

Make sure to keep the area clean and you can apply REGULAR normal Neosporin to help it heal. Just apply it very lightly.
 
Just removed the resin cave and added another small cardboard cereal box hide. Applied a thin layer of neosporin.

Could it possibly be he is rubbing it on the screen lid? I just saw him trying to "climb" the glass and he was pushing on the lid with his head. Hmmm...

That's a possibility. Generally those would appear more directly on the tip of the nose, not so much on the top of the head.

You may want to add in some fake plants to give him more cover. You can pick up the cheap flower bunches at the dollar store. I just rinse mine in hot water and spray them with a little of whatever I clean the cage with.

I try to give my "nose rubbers" a lush leafy tank, it helps them be more secure and makes them feel hidden. Plus, right now the dollar stores has these awesome bundles of fake leaves that look great with a white snake.
 
It looks like he may have rubbed on the screen top. Just put some neosporin on it (make sure it is the kind WITHOUT pain killers) and keep the area clean. After he sheds it may look awful, but there really isn't too much to do. Is your UTH on a thermostat? He could have burned himself on something.
