I was at a pet store with a bunch of my friends yesterday, I difted over to the reptiles to look at the corns...

It said they had a Christmas, Butter and a Snow. They were asking $200 each, and they werent even the morphs the said they were, 'the butter' was just an amel, the 'christmas' was a Normal, and the 'snow' was an anery. The normal was a yearling, the others were hatchlings.

I was at another store that was asking $160 for a normal motley hatchling.

This is just a snippet of why I never buy from pet stores.
 
I sure wish I could sell to that store! Wow....I'd give them a heck of deal and sell a real snow for $50!
 
Interesting. Are you sure the prices represented those that were present? Could it be possible that the tags were for previous corns that had been sold but the tags didn't get changed?

If those are the correct prices, they'll be hard pressed to sell them.
 
Canada's just like that. My local Petsmart doesn't even bother listing morphs, they just put it as 'Assorted Captive Bred Cornsnake' Their prices are ridiculous too. They had a pretty anery motley there for awhile, that was listed at $300 SALE PRICE. All of them are hatchlings too, no bigger ones. Last I checked there was an amel motley for $250. Needless to say, I see the same snakes over and over every time I'm there cause they don't sell very often.

Just down the street there's a Big Al's aquarium services, I can get an ADULT corn for half the price Petsmart charges. (Though they mislabel their corns too... I've found a "Tangerine" and a "Super Red" so far. A friend of mine works there, she's now convinced that her classic corn is a 'super red' corn...)
 
Same here unfortunately... They just have "normal" and "fancy".
I asked the store about it and they said they just sell them as how the breeder sells them to the store...
 
Man those prices are horable!! but christmas corns look like snows kind of, but still, 200 FOR A SNOW?!?!?! They must be crazy.......

I have no idea what a tangerine or a super red is.. This might require a whole lot more of explanation or a little more researching into the morphs that are commonly available..


Welcome to the Canadian Chain stores.. Last time I was back home they were selling anery motleys for $160 at the closest big chain.. *LOL* You got to be kiding me right.. But no... They had a yellow rat at that store too that was marked for a $130.. Exotic I guess.. In some ways to compare US pricing and Canadian pricing is like apples to oranges.. Of course Corns are definantly sophisticated animals to take care of...

Not to bash the hell out my country men.. Most Canadians know very little about Corn snakes, much less corn snake morphs.. Why, I am not really sure, but if I ever moved back home, I know could and would do really well within the corn market..

Chances are they followed what was labelled on the shipping containers and posted them from there.. But an anery labelled as a snow? Dirty snow of course! *LOL*

Totally crazy prices!! :eek: I love Canada, but I'm glad I don't have to buy my corn snakes there.

For the record, Christmas corns look nothing like snows. They're a red-based morph. Christmas is a hypo-like variant, allele not presently assigned.
 
the petsmart near my house (which i will start working there this week) Had my Ruby, they said it was an Albino corn and i bought her for $40 turns out she is a RO but i think it was worth it her boarders are white and very thick. and who know what hets she is, i want to breed her eventually to see what pops out. lol

The 'tangerine' was a hypo motley, and the super red was a hypo. The owner of the store figures, since people don't know what 'hypomelanistic' is, he'll sell them as something labelled simpler. :shrugs::rolleyes:

Positive. They had pictures of the snakes beside the prices.
 
WOW I have amels, ultras and ultramels and the local stores offered a whopping $10 each. Even on craigslist I cant get rid of them for $20 each. At those prices them snakes are going to die of old age before they sell.
 
Luckily at out pet store one of the girls that works there is actually a corn snake breeder, so she tells me the different morphs. I checked out her snakes once, absolutely beautiful
