Yummy Happy Mice

Funny title for a thread, lol. But I've had great success in breeding mice.

Any colony maintenance is accompanied by a crumbled animal cracker or two. This results in a slight behavior modification - the mice tumble out of their hides when I come into the room & reach up for a cracker. Makes it easy to access their condition each day :) Anyway.... it's just fun to give them a small treat. Besides cleaning, feeding, culling, and daily checks, they're pretty much left alone.

I've never had an adult mouse bite me & have a very low occurrence of females eating their young. (usually when starting out a new colony tank with first time breeders)

Enjoy the photos :) Don't they look good enough to eat!! Yummm!!

11 colony tubs + 1 grow up tub. The 2 empty tubs in the photo above have since been filled.

Great setup! My mice are nice and shiney and healthy too.

What are those little grey mice called? I bought a little girl like that this weekend. Not sure if she's a "blue" or a "lilac"...I know rats that colour are called Blues...lol Anyway, her name is Maggie! lol

The grey ones are dilute black, I think they are called lilac or dove. The light buff colored ones are dilute agouti. I think those might be called argente? They are not lethal yellow.

The tubs are Big Apple rodent breeder lab tubs. They work really well. Thanks for the comments :)

Those mice look good enough to...hug! :eek1: That's why I don't feel I'd ever have it in me to raise a colony for my snakes; I'd end up wussing out in the end because I'd get too attached to them. :p

I think I am going to have to get me one of those for my colony. I hate cleaning 10 gallon tanks. Plus I like how there is a hopper for the food.
