ZooMed Repitherm UTH Issue!

So i check my UTH every day to make sure it is running, and my snake is always in the 'cool' corner of the tank, so I've never had suspicions before. This morning Siddhartha was on the 'warm' side of the tank, and I was nervous. I checked the UTH to find that it had randomly stopped working sometime yesterday or overnight. I tested the diy dimmer and that still works on everything I've tried it on, and the UTH isn't heating up in any other outlet. I know, broken, right? My question is more why or how it broke than what do I do. I removed it from the tank, but nothing is visibly wrong with it, and it is only like 3/4 months old. Anyone have any reviews on this product, or did I happen to get a faulty one?

Heat pads (and tape) do fail. Hopefully they fail in the "off" position like yours. It should still be under warranty -if bought at a local store, they should replace it no questions asked. In my experience, Flukers, Zoo Med, Exo Terra, etc. all make pretty comparable units.

I have had one of each, ZooMed and ExoTerra Desert, fail. They both failed off. No reason. That's why it's important to have probed thermometers right on the UTH, that you can look at multiple times a day.

From experience, what is your preferred heat source?
I have the Exo Terra tropical, and just as I was told...It's not hot enough. For 4 weeks, it stayed consistent at 85-87. The last three days it's been around 82-83.
I have the thermostat, just need a new UTH or tape. Any recommendations?

I already had an old heat lamp lying around, so i went out and bought a night/day heat black bulb. I don't currently have a job, so replacing a uth and buying probe thermometers is kind of out of the question atm. The heat lamp is working very well, and the tank is over all warmer than it has been. I was also worried about the uth, because Siddhartha loves to burrow and I was afraid he'd get burned. I have a dimmer on the light, and it is working well for me, so I'm going to stick with that for now. My dad, knows nothing about snakes, but a lot about electricity, heating, and everything else, has given me a few ideas on how to maintain the habitat better. I'll check back if anything else comes up, but for now I think I'm good. I was just a little shocked it failed so suddenly. Thanks for your responses!
