Took awhile for me to open this thread. Golden eagles are quite capable of hunting and killing small deer like the one in the video. The power in their talons is simply staggering, and I ought to know! I used to have no trouble handling Victory, even worked her on a lure once (she hits the lure like a ton of bricks and comes back to your arm with similar enthusiasm). No trouble, that is, until I had to hold her to have her beak and talons filed down to remove the sharp points. She never forgave me for it and would give me the "I'm going to kill you!" grip thereafter. Needless to say, I didn't handle her unless it was absolutely necessary! Oh, and her weight was about 11-12 pounds. Birds look heavier than they really are. The lappet-faced vulture, Lightning, was the heaviest bird of prey I handled, tipping the scales at about 17 pounds.
