What's your favorite breed of dog?

Aww, that is so precious!! There's a newfie in my neighborhood, and he's the only dog around here that makes Dino look somewhat small. He's so sweet. My kids are going to love that vid...thanks, Dale!

Actually, due to the beagles famous selective hearing, they are widely known as not the easiest dog to train. They are stubborn little willful gits. But with huge fluffy ears, I don't care :)

I meant train to do their job.... Hunting.. LOL
They are spot on in the field.... Proper busy little guys who will track, mark, come and get you and show you where to look....... Most of it comes natural to them....

I'd agree with both of these. We had a beagle named Darby who was just the most stubborn dog you can imagine. His stubbornness usually came of his sense of smell though. If he was on something he absolutely couldn't possibly pay any attention to what you were telling him. They really are very sensitive dogs too, too harsh of a reprimand and they would be really crushed, lol. Old Darby would sort of hold a grudge with you if you shouted at him. Really great dogs though..

Working type poodles are good dogs, I agree. Smart as anything but generally interested in pleasing their humans.

I find that also to be true of my miniature poodle. Never had or known a toy, but of all the dogs I've had (or had in part- through roommates, family, or exes) I've never known one to be more devoted and willing to learn and please than my miniature Jax. And that's coming from a terrier guy too who really prefers the more aloof and individualistic aspects of their temperament.
I think poodles really get a bad name from their haircuts and from excessive pampering and spoiling. You let a dog rule the roost (especially a smart one) and you'll wind up with the character that people _think_ poodles have, lol.

Once when I was like 10 or so, a big old Newfoundland followed me home from school. I'm sure he was someone's pet out for a stroll, but I begged my mom to let us keep him. She told me no and so I stayed out with him on the front porch for hours. I actually fell asleep on the concrete with my head on his chest, lol. That was certainly a big old teddy bear!

One of my faves...and definitely the next dog I acquire:

We had a Noufie/Lab mix...that is IMO the best mix ever. She basically looked like a Noufie but with a short lab coat. Easy keep up and an awesome dog :)

I'm not really a small dog person, but somewhere along the line, Pomeranians became my favorite. But they are really just a big dog stuck in a small dog's body, so it's all good. ;) I also love pit bulls! German Shepherds are right up there too. Labs are pretty great too, as long as they are properly trained. I'm also a fan of Australian Shepherds, Shiba Inus, Malamutes and some others that I'm probably forgetting at the moment.

Here are my Poms:

Hard to say... my next dog will be a Dogo Argentino, but I like lots of breeds... I suppose a REAL American Pit Bull Terrier (not an oversized or "bully" dog), a Dutch shepherd... I'll probably end up with an Australian Koolie... working Beaucerons. Then again, I would not say no to a good Rott or Dobe either. Oh and Tekels (working Dachshunds). My current dog has given me a bias towards proper-tempered spaniels as well.

I used to like CKC Spaniels, but far too many health issues, I'm afraid. *sigh*

Ultimately, for me... a good dog is where you find it (and whatever breed/mix as well). If it has a sound body and mind and will work, I like it!

MIne would definately be an Irish wolfhound. I've wanted one ever since I saw a picture of one as an 8 year old. Then saw one in person at a dog show when I was 10. Some day I will own one.

There are lots of gorgeous dog breeds available...

and I grew up with collies, so will always love them. I have had other breeds over the years, including German shepherds, Pekinese, and yorkies. But there is just something about German shepherds that always draws me back to them. I just like everything about them. If I ever get another dog again, I want one just like Ciana.

I love a good working dog, especially a bird dog. I have two vizslas, Cajun and Jaz. They are both very versatile, and have been used retrieving dove, ducks and geese, trailing wounded/dead game, as well as pointing and retrieving quail and pheasants.

I grew up with German Shepherds and will always have a soft spot in my heart for them. Still, my ridgebacks will always be a part of my life now. I've had them for 20 years. And yes, I suppose they would now be Zimbabwean ridgebacks.....but that just sounds stupid! Maybe I'll go back to calling them lion hounds. Mike: It's sure nice to see a vizsla being used for what it was bred. They are nice dogs and another favorite. Jodi: Love your Shiba. My boss at work has one as well. They are so cute!
Xcin: Love your Frenchy! I run into them now and again at Petsmart when I'm there for the pet adoptions. People bring them in and they are always a hit.

Hmm, difficult to pick just one, so here's the list, in no particular order!

Boxer (I have a boxer/Australian cattle dog cross now)
German shorthair (we have a shorthair/cattle dog cross...fantastic farm dog!)
Ridgeback
Pibble!!!!
Vizsla (Mike and Brent, your dogs are gorgeous!! And Mike, don't think I've ever told you this, but you look A LOT like my friend Bryan!)
Basset hound
Saint Bernard
Beagle
Weimaraner

I'm sure I forgot a few, but that's good enough. :)
