Eastern Smooth Green Snake + Garters Revisited (DUW)

You guys will be happy to know that my garter snake friends seem to be doing well. I revisited their slithering grounds and saw a number of them. One was in blue!

This little guy hung out with me for awhile:

So after getting home from the park I decide to take a walk to the art supply store. On my way there I see what appears to be a little toy snake on the sidewalk:

Then he moves.

This was a big lifer for me. The Smooth Green Snake was at the top of my "snakes to find this summer" list. Apparently this one found me!

He was incredibly sweet and had very soft scales. Hopefully he is doing well.

I love the green snakes! I used to try to catch whatever species of them is found in Florida but was rarely successful, and was never allowed to keep them.

That is goooorgeous! Wow. Can you buy those anywhere?

I've never seen one for sale; the most I have found was a book about their husbandry. They are beautiful and have really nice temperaments when encountered in the wild, but from what I have read they stress easily in captivity and are reluctant feeders unless they have a really naturalistic set-up.

LOVE the lemon on that garter! ( I've recently fallen in love with garters due to my new checkered baby. )

That smoothie has me GREEN with envy!;-) (C'mon! Someone had to say it! )

I have a place in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and saw a couple of the Green Snakes up there last year. Ill be heading up in a couple of weeks and will see if I can get a couple of pictures. They are really pretty.

Aw, congrats on that green snake find! I used to see these all the time in Indiana. They're among my favorite creatures!

Really really pretty, oneirogenesis. I have never seen a smooth green up close, but wanted to.
We have rough greens down here. When you find a place/locale,...they are usually all over the place. I had two gravid females that laid eggs I hatched in 1981 or 1982. They were kind of flighty and didn't thrive particularly well in captivity.
