New cat & new apartment!

Daenerys

Mother of Dragons
Just wanted to share some pictures of our new cat, Jaylan, and of our new apartment that we just moved into last weekend :)

First is Jaylan. She is a short hair tortoiseshell cat Brandon adopted from PetSmart where he works. He kind of fell in love with her after taking care of her for a little while in the cat adoption center. We brought her home on Tuesday. She is a year old and quite playful and vocal. She loooove attention and cuddling with Brandon on the couch, though she also loves keeping her claws out so that doesn't always work for Brandon lol. She'd probably cuddle with me too if my dog wasn't so easily jealous!

On Thursday night while Brandon and I were asleep she discovered the fish bowl with my betta in it....it resulted in a fatality. She was actually after the little plant in the bottom, but I bet it gave my betta a scare to see a giant cat paw reaching in. He jumped out and died via lack of water. The little plant got destroyed. So...we got me a new betta AND a new tank for him. Its a little 2.5 gallon tank with a glass lid so we can keep Jaylans paws out of there. The new betta is Caspian III...the one Jaylan killed was Caspian II. These pictures are from when she discovered Caspian III and his lovely new cat-proof fish tank.

"Do you see that thing swimming round and round
Maybe we can reach on in and make it drown
If we sneaking up upon it carefully
There will be head for you and a tail for me"

Wait a minute, more creatures to harass!

DSC_0033-1.jpg

....this isn't as fun. They don't even come out of their little boxes.

Perhaps I can harass the dog??

DSC_0037.jpg

AHH!!! Okay, okay I wont harass the dog!!! (The dog had barked at her just as I took the picture. Then she fell off the table.)

I'll just stick to this feathery....thing...whatever the devil it is.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH! I killed it.

Pictures of our new apartment to be added at a later date. Still cleaning up a bit. ^_^

I love torties too...when I got my Kiska (little black cat) I was originally looking for a tortie. But Kiska picked me so she came home instead!

Got a question for you... do you have a heater and filter for your betta? He needs one! :D

No I don't and I don't think he needs it...he gets weekly (sometimes more often) water changes and our apartment is kept at 78 degrees so room temperature should be fine.

Bettas don't need filters, though they do help! But they do need heaters. Keep in mind that water is going to be a few degrees cooler than the air around it, so no, room temperature is not ok. Try investing in a 25watt heater, usually around $20 and will help keep your betta healthy.

On a side note, cuuuuuuute kittie! I am in LOVE with tortoise shells.

And sorry about your previous fish. :C

Plenty of people keep healthy bettas without heaters. But if I ever have some spare money I'll look into it.

They do muuuuuuch better with heaters. Bettas who are in unheated tanks are much more susceptible to disease.

Thanks! ^_^ I am getting really lazy about cleaning up the apartment for pictures...they're coming eventually!

Cute kitteh! Torties have tortie-tude & I love them!
They don't call em "naughty torties" for nothing. Oooh my tortie has a 'tude, she is amazing. Looks kinda like yours, more black than some :)

I love the 'just about to fall off the table' shot.

Great thing about torties is they don't grow up too quickly either. At least mine is still nuts!

Yeah Jaylan is a spazz and doesn't listen to us at all, lol. She is always in the mood for play and she likes to bother us while we're sleeping. She will even play by herself with her "feathers on a stick" toy which is funny cause she grabs it at the feathery end and then try and walk around with it but she keeps hitting things with the stick end. XD She's a crazy kitty and thats why we love her ^_^

Haaaa there's just something about torties isn't there, they're brilliant.

My other cat (different litter I think but can't be sure) is the perfect feline, very cautious, slinky and cat-like in every way. She's black & white.

My tortie is none of those things. She jumps without looking, barges open doors, stomps into a room, eats everything that cats shouldn't like, faces up to much bigger cats like she's queen of the universe - and makes me laugh every day.
