If it was really that important for them to know, then why couldn't they have had a snake handler get each one to bite into something that could have been measured, or made a cast from? Guess it is more fun to decapitate snakes!

And to be honest I never recommend any one working with large constrictors over 7 feet by themselves. I have had my arm turn blue from a 6 foot boa before. They are stronger than you think.

I don't think anyone ever questioned whether the snake had to potential to kill a 2-year old girl, just whether it would be motivated to expend energy killing something that was obviously much too large to swallow.
Too large to swallow is debatable. I did have a snake that was only just the size to eat fuzzies sneak into a neighbor's cage and eat their large hopper/small weanling.
