Whats a good 2nd snake?

No matter what snake you get, there's always the chance for a bite. Pick a species, I guarantee someone got bit by it. I wouldn't let that deter you. It WILL happen. If you are dealing with snakes you will get bit. It won't kill you (unless you are keeping hots!)

I know. I just I would get bit so I can get the first over with and quit being a scared little wimp.

there are certain species of toy snakes which never bite no matter what

Options include
cali kings, FL kings -- bitey, flighty but interesting & pretty & easy to keep
New World rat snakes -- not quite so crazy as kings, several species available
rosy boas
kenyan sand boas
dwarf BCI, a male won't get that big
western hognoses, small, megacute
African House Snakes
And if you want a long, active snake, look at old world ratsnakes. David (Snakemaster24) has one. She could wind up being 10 feet long but not thickbodied like a boa or python of that length. She is fast, and watches everything around her viv from what David says.

Oh, Heralds Snake

David (Snakemaster24) has one and it is awesome. I am actually hoping to add one to my collection in the future.

IMO i don't like BP's... proportionally, i think they look weird... no offense to people that have them but they just aren't my thing, they seem to wide for how short they are and for how small of head they have.

I'm getting an Orange Hog Island Boa this weekend :) i'm so pumped, and they aren't too hard to take care of

There are a lot of other snakes out there that aren't too hard to care for so line up your choices and choose one that you think looks nice! ;)

Ditto, I'm not a fan of BP's either. Not to say I don't like them, because I like all snakes, but they aren't my thing.

Not every snake is going to be perfect for every keeper, so like Haarstad said line up your choices! I would choose carefully, this is a commitment and you don't want to regret it. I would look at the size you want, the colors you want, the care requirements you are looking for (cage size, feeding, handling, heating, humidity, etc...), the activity level you are looking for. Make sure to get the right snake for you.

You guys would not like what kind of snake I rly want. any type could be it but just something I want it to do

western hognoses but they dont get too long...

they are pretty nice snakes though

why you wanna branch soo soon?

Does anyone have a picture of this?

Oh and one more thing that you might want to take into consideration... I like the boa that i'm getting cause it's different than a corn snake, a boa grips you and holds on tight as it climbs around you, whereas a corn loosely slithers through your fingers, up your arm and all over you... so if you want something that is different to hold, take that into consideration too

Length does not matter. But im not a big fan of snakes that get umm the word is not fat but like big around. I was going to look into a rosy untill i heard they bite a lot. I can deal with bites but I was told there bites hurt....BAD. I heard milks are bad to musk?????

Rosies are praised as being more docile than BPs and corns. Whoever told you that is either uninformed or had very bad luck with them. Or confused them with a tropical boa species.

You have to realize that EVERY pet has the potential to bite. Want something that doesn't bite? Get a rock.

Oh, and you mentioned something about girth. Boas don't have a healthy fatness like BPs. The roundest boas are the small desert ones.

Apotos just moves around me, sometimes falling off even. Lotem holds on for dear life. Corns vary a lot in personality.

This is Noah the BOA!!! She's an anery Pioneertown.

Garter snakes are neat. They are docile and very easy to care for.

There are dwarf Boa constrictors that don't get bigger than 4 or 5 ft... Nicaraguan and Hogg Isle BCIs are the most common of these, with Nicaraguans being generally smaller than Hoggs.

Someone suggested Pituophis (Bull/Pine/Gopher) snakes earlier. These can be a great choice. They can reach 8 feet in length... Not a slender length, but not "ball python" thick, either.

Black rat snakes are among the most docile "New World" rats. Similar care to corns, only they get much bigger... I've heard they can reach 6-8 feet? Not 100% on that.

Then you have Asian rats, most of which can be rather nippy and flighty and get to a good size.. But they're very neat. Inquisitive, active, intelligent, and quite lovely. I had a Taiwan Beauty rat once--about 6.5 feet yet no bigger around than my 3 ft boa. She only ever hid when she was deep in blue or had just eaten a big meal. Her bites weren't too bad. Certainly bad enough to draw blood, but not too exceptionally painful once you got past the initial shock. Mine was far from docile (thought everything was food), but Beauties can be quite docile if handled regularly and correctly from a young age.

Taiwan Beauties have the potential to exceed 8 feet in length, and need a large enclosure to accommodate their size and activity level, though there are smaller subspecies of Beauty... As well as larger subspecies (namely Vietnamese Blue Beauties). Plus other species of Old World rats, including King rats (this is what Jasmine, David's rat that wstphal linked to earlier, is) and Russian rats (also called Korean or Amur rats). Kings get huge, can be nippy, and earn their alternate name--"Stinking" Goddess. Russian rats are rather docile and stay 4-6 ft, but aren't as colorful and attractive as some of the other Old World rats.

Whatever you get, make sure its adult size isn't SO big that you wouldn't be able to handle it safely by yourself.
