Those pet shops make me sooo mad!!!

Missy if you need help finding relevent phone numbers etc, let me know what London Borough or council you are in and I'll see what I can find out for you while I'm at work (one of the advantages of being a librarian ;) ) I'm sure I'll be able to come up with something :D

oh my goodness thank you very much, john. i had searched everywhere for the rspca website and could not find anything, having said that, my sister has messed up our comp and we've had a few virus's lately.
but have taken down a couple of address's and will be writing to them.
i will make sure i copy and paste a dublicate of the letter i will be sending to them.
thanx again john.
:D
stubbyuk, if you could find a council postal or web address, that would be absolutely perfect. it is the enfield council i am looking for, this shop is called jollyes and is based in crews hill, enfield.
thanx
:D

Okay, here's a few things to try. Pet shops need a licence to trade. To get one they would have to apply to the council at this address, so this may be a good place to send a complaint:

Enfield Council Licencing Link

Contact details:

Licensing Unit, B Block North, PO Box 57, Civic Centre, Silver Street, Enfield, EN1 3XH
Telephone: 020 8379 3578
Email: [email protected]

The council also have a animal welfare officer who investigates complaints, tel: 020 8379 3695.

And the council has a general complaints department. See here for details:-

link to council complaints info

Although I suspect you'd be better trying the Animal Welfare guy first.

Hope that helps, and good luck :)

:D

e-mail sent to you now john, it is quite long though, and my different colours have not worked either i dont think, lol, sorry.
:D

I'm assuming someone has been to this pet store lately and has seen that nothing has changed? I've been in contact with Rob McIntyre from Jollye's and his answers have been very professional and in my opinion, sound. Are circumstances the same as they were over a month ago?

have you visited this store dionthicus?
i have been visiting this store on a regular basis to check if anything changes and their has been a few changes, the cornsnakes and the milk snake is no longer there at all, the burmese pythons have been moved to much bigger enclosures too.
but thats about it.
i too had an e-mail back from rob and he had sent the same e-mail to everyone that complained and i did not think that it was professional at all. he sounded like he hadnt a clue what he was supposed to be doing.
will keep all updated.

Just got it Missy (i only check it once a week usually). Excellant emails and bang on with info. I esspecailly like the paragraph about the corn snakes, as i didn't realise their were that many in the same viv, or that they were mixing differant sizes (even my 10 year old cousin wouldn't do that).

What a sad state of affairs this shop is in, i'm just glad i don't live your way Missy as i wouldn't be able to hold my tonge (especially if i went in as cornman, lol, but i'm hoping not to see him for a while).

I wasn't going to make any comments on this thread, even though I have been in contact with Jollye's, but I believe I need to put in my 2 cents.

No, ma'am, I have not visited the store, as I'm clearly in the US and don't have the opportunity. The fact that some of the snakes have been removed and others placed in larger enclosures is, I believe, directly related to my ongoing conversations with Rob McIntyre. I pursued your complaint, based solely on your opinions of the situation. I have spoken to him more than once, and I have voiced my concerns about the housing of the snakes.

You haven't acknowledged that I tried to help, so I let the subject drop. In any case, you're welcome.

huh????
dio, where on earth did i go wrong here?
i know that you have tried to help, i have never said that you havent. i apprecaite it, i really do
you live in the usa, oops, i never actually read your location. silly me
yes they have made a few changes. but it is not enough, i have only ever received on e-mail from him, i have e-mailed him a couple of times and have never recived another e-mail from him. i found him rude and unknowledged of reptiles.
and that is just my 2 cents, i am going higher than him now purely because he no longer will take the time to reply to me.

Good for you. Since this is an ongoing problem with this particular store, I would definitely continue the good fight.

I was only trying to point out that there are others trying to make a difference, course there isn't a whole lot I can do from my side of the pond. :)

I hope you can make progress with this situation and get them to clean up their act. Perhaps a local paper would be interested in hearing about this?

:madeuce::devil01::fullauto::dgrin::bomb::uzi::flames:I went to a Petco with a freind once and omg! there where 30 snakes in one tank! I WANTED TO PUKE! I say droppings everywhere. about 20 skins lying around. :realhot: I wanted to scream! I cannot belive that some pet shops lett there animals get like that. I saw NO water in the tank. the tank was A 5 gallon tank! they where being crushed. I wanted to explode!:blowhead::angry01:I HATE PET SHOPS!

:angry01:I HATE PET SHOPS!

I invite you to see mine sometime. I have 30-50 snake cages at any given time, you're welcome to inspect every one. Hating all pet shops because of some that have bad husbandry is about as logical as racism.

Sorry, those blanket statements really get in my craw.
