any doctors in the house? need a little help finding the proper back brace

l0ck_0ff

im a tall guy im around 6'4 so naturally i have a bad back.... well recently i have been doing alot of activity helping my friends move stuff chopping wood ect, ect.... i need a back brace but im not exactly sure what kind for my proper support.... its not serious enough to go to the doctor or mention it when i go for my arm its not a bother to me but sometimes after working or doing stuff my back just kills

its my lower back. if im chopping wood and i go to stand back up straight my back will tighten up and almost give me like a shock to the point where i have to suck in a big breath of air and slowly let it out for my back to relax and if it doesnt relax i just stand there til it does.....

i was looking online at walgreens braces. so for lower back support and to keep it from straining shouldi get almost like a lifting belt to give my back support or just a plain back brace those usually include abdonmial support...

im leaning mor towards the lifting belt it velcroes on my wait and has suspenders to hold it up....

im really not sure i just want the most support i can get while working and oding activity...

thanks in advance!

The company I work for introduced these a few years ago to help with back pain and found they made the matter worse as people could push harder... They are now banned.
Pain is there to stop you damaging yourself further.... Go and find out what the cause is and maybe they can sort it for you....

Now if only my mom understood that. "Do your online school work! Empty the dishwasher INCLUDING sharp pointy knives from the silver ware! Set the table with the heavy china! Come to me when I call for you!" And so.

Sure you can't SEE pain, but my wrists are CLEARLY swollen, I've lost range of movement in my shoulders and hips, my left calf is swollen to about TWICE the size it should be, I'm PANTING because I can't breathe when I do the simplest of things, I--

l0ck_0ff, go to the doctor. c:
Take it easy if you can, but bring it up at your next appointment, or make one if you can afford it.

the main reason i dont bring it up is because i dont like hospitals or doctors or stuff like that and i dont wanna go through therapy and junk....

and i dont take it easy lol i can afford the doctor i got insurance

i mean i can carry a 110 pound pack and service rifle and all my gear up a mountain/hill and carry it all day and all night with a little pain but when im doing yard work it takes a toll on my back for some reason... ill pick up a lifting belt and see where it goes if it doesnt help i will go to my doctor

Therapy can be very helpful if you don't push yourself, and unless you actually have a real problem that isn't being addressed.

i started actually having back problems when i was 15.... i havent said anything about it.. my mom never really listenend to me when i did speak up because she always thought i was making it up or doing it to geto ut of school or work. and that was never the case. i only spoke up when i was hurt. and the times i did get hurt and let it go and not said anything ( broken hand and color bone and cut up knee) she yelled at me and said why didnt i speak up? well i told her because she never listened to me. i just keep it to myself. of ocurse i can go to the doctor on my own now as i have my own insurance.... but i still dont wanan mess with my back. im afraid of losing it. but i know by the time im 60 i wont be able to walk if i let it go....

I think physical therapy is great if you have a good physical therapist. They can help you identify weaknesses and strengthen them. A belt can't do that for you.

i picked up a belt from meijer cus they wereo n sale but im going to return it because a splint is missing from the support
and pick up an ace belt

Aren't those kind of parents great? And you just know karma won't come and help you out or bite them in the ass.

I have back problems too. My spine got messed up from my time riding in the turret on my little 2by4 seat, over washboard terrain. Back problems are no laughing matter, you need to get it seen by the doctor and nipped in the butt now. If you keep working with it like this, you are only going to make matters worse. Believe me, I should have seen a doctor a few years ago when it hurt the first time, but I didn't and my last deployment made it much worse. There are times when I can barely get out of bed, I keep a hefty supply of over the counter pain meds in my backpack, car, wifes purse, just for moments when I need it.

There was also a time when I went to get out of my car, I had pain shoot down the backs of both of my legs and I fell to my knees because they buckled out from underneath me.
In fact, If I sit too long, my back starts to hurt, and if I stand too long my left knee starts to hurt... Oh the joys of having a body that is older than I really am...
I think my grandfather can get around just as well as I can, and he is in his 70's and has had multiple back surgeries.

I am still trying to get the VA to give me a MRI on my back so we know what exactly is wrong with it, because the med group out at Holloman sure wouldn't when I was in the military and complained about it for 3 weeks straight.

But yes, You definitely need to see a doctor. You need it fixed, because you do not want to be overseas in a war zone, and have your back go out and not be able to move while under fire. I am lucky that did not happen to me.

well i dont know if i will be going back jsut yet because my arm still needs evaluation on how its healed and to see if my arm is healthy enoough to use fully without any problems..... in fact i will go to the doctor because if i lay for too long my back hurts... or some nights when i sleep i can feel the ressure points on my spine and the points wherei need support that my mattress isnt giving and it hurts and keeps me up.

i hope my arm heals fine and my back doesnt become horribly bad because i love being in the marines. i love my fellow brothers and i love what i do and i love training and running and i have fun when im out training.. i really dont wanna loose all that. so ill go get checked my next appointment

I usually have to sleep on my stomach with a pillow under it to keep it straight so it doesn't hurt.

im afraid to sleep on my stomach i try to sleep on my back with my legs bent or on my sides but it is all becoming irritating..... i might invest in a tempur pedic see how it goes
