Burm Updates! And some blood...

whippet

So Malakai the Burmese...who came from Robbie this past summer has really been packing on weight since switching over to medium rats. He is looking great...but was not a in a great mood tonight! When we stroked him with the hook he hissed a bit. Should have been a sign to pull out the big wussy gloves, but hey we are brave hard-headed herpers, so we pressed on. He did really well for about 6 minutes.
Check out how good he looks!

Gotcha! He spun around and tagged my finger so fast...it was like lightning. He let go fairly fast and I bled like a stuck pig! Good thing we have tile floor down there.

Still got to love him! Feisty! We really need to make ourselves handle him weekly to see if we can calm him down before he is big enough to really hurt!
In the meantime...how much alcohol am I supposed to take orally again?

Great looking burm! I'm sure He'll settle down with continued handling. On the bright side, at least it wasn't a retic.

Hell that's so bad that I'm taking alcohol to help ease your pain!!
He's looking very healthy and sweet. Nice set up too.
You said tile...you have a snake room lady?? Ooooo

They sure are beautiful.

He is exceptionally gorgeous for a nearly 3 year old burm. His pattern is holding quite well. I just hope that he will settle down with time. He graced us with a fairly lengthy honeymoon period but has been rather "hissy" since moving into his larger quarters.... :nope:

Angela-- thanks for the compliments. We're really happy with how he's filled out. Rats do amazing things to snakes!

Nice snake, nice room and especially like the snake on the floor in upper left pic

That's Pelvis. We try to let Pelvis out to cruise from time to time. Her former owners fed her medium rats for several years and when she came to us, she was so fat she had "hips" hence her name.

Since you dump me from FB I had my doubts about the pal part!! LOL
Sorry this is the first I seen of your ""facility"" :D But thanks for sharing pal, I love it!!!

Hey, none of that sarcasm!! It's more of a facility than some others around here!! I think I will change the wording though... seems too impersonal.

*off to make changes*

Pssh... I didn't call it a facility, you liar.

He's a beauty! Looks great! I always think that it's too bad they get so dang big, or I'd be tempted to have one. Z is simply relieved that they're too big for me to have one! LOL!

So, refusing to be deterred by his maiming of my lady, tonight I donned "full battle gear" and again held the "culprit."

He hissed a bit when I was getting him out of his cage, but didn't attempt to bite or even seem like he was going to try. Held him for about 5 minutes and put him back. I wanted him to be returned to his cage on a positive note.

Here's the thought I had though. The only time he ever bit Robbie was when Robbie was handling him for a photo session and tried to hold him upside down for a ventral shot. Is it possible that he has retained that memory of discomfort and negativity, and the close proximity of the camera on Sunday night brought that back?

(It's okay to tell me I'm being too deep here)
