Does this sound like a fair trade?

A male 2009 high orange amel in trade for a month old female caramel hatchling. Sound like a fair trade?

Depends. The male is older (more valuable). Other than that they are both single genes...

Also, a hatchling is more risky. At a month old, it still has the capacity to have developmental problems that we sometimes only see as they grow. I'd be looking for a 100% D/F feeding record as a minimum, but even that's no guarantee that it'll be alive this time next year.

If that was me and I was receiving the hatchling, I'd stick to a cash transaction. This would make the variables and risks sting less in the worst case scenario.

sounds like a fair trade if you're rehoming something you don't want and getting something you do (o: hatchlings are more risky, and the male is older, but the hatchling is a female too, which seems to increase value.

Good point, Bitsy. A caramel hatchling has to be inexpensive enough that one wouldn't need to trade for it, unless one was just trying to cut back in general.

I always look at trades this way.....Am I giving up something that I don't need or want and getting something that I do. If that is the case then I think it is fair. But that is just me. I always feel if both parties can walk away happy is always a factor as well.

Good points. I am moving out a male in a color I don't want to work with for a female in a color that goes better with what I have. I've put a lot of groceries into the male though so was thinking two hatchlings would be a better trade for me. I don't want to be unfair to the other person though, which is why I was asking. I have gotten hatchlings from this person before and he starts them really well. He won't let them leave unless they are eating consistently, but like you all say, there are no guarantees with hatchlings.

Is this girl for pistachio?
I think it would be a good deal. Pistachio (being a butter) already carries amel, so unless you are really looking for the fluorescent amend then your fluorescent seems like an extra. Females seem to be a little more valuable in most circumstances. The only thing that stinks about the deal is the age difference, but if you are going to get something that benefits you more in the long run then it just requires a little bit of patience

Yes, she would be for pistachio :) I think she may be het amel so we could get some more butters too! John thinks pistachio might be het charcoal so I will test him with my charcoal female to keep him busy in the mean time. The flourescent is really nice, just not the color I want to work with. Someone, ahem, got me hooked on lavendars, and I prefer the rest of the gray snakes too.

I wonder who that could be?
Wow, I didn't know Pistachio might be het charcoal. Now I need to ask him about Tigerlilly's hets
I know what you mean about the fluorescents, nice but since time and resources are limited, you can't have endless projects.
Has anyone done charcoal caramels (with or without amel)?
