executive order 3/16/2012

tsst

Deuce is watching!
It's a long read but in short would give the gov power to take over everything under the guise of national defense. Food, water, industry, transport, work force, farms, livestock, even tractors, etc, etc, etc!

Welcome to the Communist States of America!

Can't wait until Israel attacks Iran and the world oil supply is cut by 40% with the closure of the strait. National defense is sighted to be in jeopardy and this is enacted. Get out your ration stamps to buy your 10 gallons @ $10/gal and your $12 carton of milk.

That's not really our highest concern at the moment... Just saying. :shrugs:

Maybe not but I fully support Israel's right to defend herself. I just cringe at the thought of our gov using it as a reason to act on this order.

Sounds like this is just clarification of a law from 1950 that basically allowed the president the same thing. If this is as bad as you say, then the US went communist over 60 years ago.

It's weird, though. The only places I can find talking about this are conservative blogs. Most are "It's not a big deal", but the ones that are freaking out seem to be talking about the Kenyan Muslim traitor in office, so it seems to me that most people, and certainly most reasonable people aren't getting too excited about this.

I'm not all that familiar with this side of the US government, though, and I'm not sure how much weight executive orders carry. Some basic research shows the Supreme Court has overturned unconstitutional EOs in the past, so if this is really bad, I imagine it won't last.

Since it's based on a law over 60 years old, though, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Didn't Britain effectively do that during WWII? And after the war, things went back....... Not saying it's good, but it's not OMGENDOFTHEUSASWEKNOWITFOREVER!

It's hard to take people seriously when they accuse him of being a liberal muslim atheist.... in all seriousness. Despite the fact that two of those terms are absolutely mutually exclusive. If they can't get *that* right, and if one of the candidates for the right honestly said that CO2 isn't dangerous (we should show him how we euthanise mice...) and we should have a plant tell us that... Well, as I said. Hard to take 'em seriously.

What you failed to recognize was the redistribution of power to agencies that did not exist 60 years ago. Agencies that themselves have broader power, DHS and the like. Combined that with a less stable time in the world.

hmmm ... thinking out loud ... didn't DHS just order 450 MILLION rounds of .40 S&W HST ammo?

A less stable time in the world than the early Cold War and the Korean War?

Considering most right wing blogs that I've read have been less than alarmed about this, and, like I said, the ones that are seem to be paranoid about a Muslim takeover anyway, I'm not really seeing your point of view for this one, tsst.

Besides, virtually every country has these measures. Canada has the War Measures Act which pretty much gives the government sweeping powers to control virtually everything. Trudeau used it during the FLQ crisis and I don't think it's been used since. I'm sure you consider it to be indicative of this administration's agenda to turn the US into a fascist state, but I highly doubt that.

In fact, considering what Republicans have been up to this last couple weeks, I'd be hoping for a sweeping Democrat win in the next election.

What, you mean like removing my rights as a woman? My right to decide whether I get to become pregnant in the first place or not, because some supposed deity doesn't like not keeping me imprisoned by my womb? My right to accurate medical knowledge about my fetus if I do get pregnant? My right to not effectively get raped by the state if I do decide to abort a pregnancy? Or how about prosecuting me as a murderer if I happen to miscarry?

You seem to, as usual, confuse me with someone that deems republicrats as better than demicans. I take each individual and each act in and of itself. I did not like the patriot act either(a more republican idea). I don't like Romneycare any more than Obamacare. Anything that restricts or infringes freedom.

No offense intended but I don't and never have wanted to live in Canada nor do I want the USA to base our rights and freedoms off of Canada. I much prefer not having a fedgov nanny.

Yes it is less stable by far. The cold war, though it had huge potential for destruction, was more stable in that both sides seemingly understood the cost. I don't believe third world countries in the middle east comprehend as well. The USSR would not have taken down the twin towers. Less stable.

I find it indicative of the frog in boiling water analogy.

I find it indicative of the frog in boiling water analogy.

The frog in boiling water analogy is, sadly, misunderstood. Yes, he was able to boil a frog alive by slowly raising the temperature... AFTER he removed most of its brain. When he didn't remove most of their brain, they simply hopped out of the pot.

Now, to me, removing most of the brain of any creature is going to have serious repercussions regarding the survival instinct.

I personally cannot see Obama winning in '12. I don't think he'll have the same following as he did in '08. I think the whole "attack" on women debate is getting old. I mean if the government is paying for birth control because it's a "right", why can't the government buy me that fancy handgun I've been eye-balling. I mean it's my right to bear arms and defend my home and property, right? By not giving me that handgun, I feel they're dictating what happens to my family and property. In cases of rape or incest, yes I fully support abortion. But in cases of "Oops! I guess I'm knocked up!", I don't support it at all. You tell me what's responsible about letting careless people terminate pregnancies just because they couldn't keep their legs shut.

I wasn't suggesting the US base anything off Canada, I was just illustrating my point with an example.

Shiari - Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I have been absolutely gobsmacked by what's going on in the Republican party and in Arizona and Texas. Like, Texas tried to cut off Planned Parenthood in the last administration and got smacked down, what did they expect to happen this time? Has the whole party gone insane?

The analogy not the literal experiment.

Misconception and misconception.

First, the government IS. NOT. PAYING. FOR. BIRTH CONTROL. It's a thing to mandate that INSURANCE PROVIDERS must provide it. NOT the gov't. And it's a hullibaloo because some catholic places didn't want to have their employee health insurance plans to provide it.

And nice slut shaming there, David.

Has it never occurred to you that:
Sometimes a woman isn't healthy enough to have a child?
Sometimes birth control FAILS?
Sometimes a woman understands that she would NOT be a fit parent?
Sometimes the man makes the birth control fail.... intentionally? I know someone this happened to.
Sometimes the woman is not in a place where she could properly raise a child?
Sometimes the fetus has a condition that prevents viability?
Sometimes the parents have a genetic condition that should NOT be passed on to a child?

Carinata, no one is suggesting that birth control be payed for by taxes. It was going to be covered by insurance, which is paid for by employees in the form of compensation for services rendered. At no point were taxes or government money involved at all.

I find it interesting that Republicans have been framing this debate as about taxpayers paying for contraception when they're the ones who've been making sure health care is not socialized in the US. Of course, the idea that people shouldn't have freedom is a narrative the Republicans don't want to be known for, even though everything they've done regarding this issue has been about stripping rights from women.

Also, Carinata, you are dangerously close to doing exactly what Rush did. Do not for a second think that slut shaming does not make you a monster.
