New to corn snakes. Always had pythons but the kids wanted some corn snakes. Couldn't get this snake's brightness to come through on the camera. Oranges are extremely bright. Also have a miami phase and this one looks glow in the dark next to it. Thanks for any help.

Nice snake! The way the blacks and the side patterns are "dissolving", he looks diffuse (bloodred) to me...

Thanks for the reply, that was one of my guesses after looking around at pics. Hopefully I'll learn some of these morphs eventually.

Nice snake! The way the blacks and the side patterns are "dissolving", he looks diffuse (bloodred) to me...

He has belly checkers, that means there is no way he can be a diffuse or a bloodred.
But I think he is a really nice hypo.

I just wonder why you would buy a snake from someone who can't tell you what it is.....?

so bloodreds and diffused don't have belly checkers? good information. Thank you. I did not purchase the snake. Someone locally had a ball python they could no longer keep so I took it off his hands. When I went to pick it up he also had this corn which he also could not keep. Since my children have been wanting corn snakes I happily took this snake as well. He did not know what it was, only that he "liked it".

Oh, don't get me wrong I think it's an awesome looking snake. Was just curious as to what I might have here is all. Thanks for your replies. Great to know there is a place to go for some answers.

I have nothing against pythons, but would never own one. I am alllll about the color, and corns have it in abundance!! Yours is a lovely example of the hypo morph imo. :)

Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it. Just have to say though, I have some Ball Pythons that have unbelievable colors on them. Don't think they can quite compete with corns but seeing some wild things come out in the B.P. world these days. Think I will get myself well educated on these corns and expand the collection a little. Again, thank you very much for the help.

It definitely looks like a hypo. Here's a really good site to help you with identification:

http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/species/elaphe_guttata/

But also keep in mind that different specimens of the same morph can look very different. And as far as belly checkers go, any diffused morph as well as motleys and stripes have clear bellies, although that can vary as well as far as "speckling"...just no clear checkers.

Congrats on your pretty new snake!

I would say that snake is a hypo. Very pretty one to. I love the colors.

Just some info:

He does not have any diffusion on the sides. If you look at the side of this snake (he is starsevol's snake) see how he goes from a normal pattern on his back to fading to no pattern or almost no pattern on the sides.

And here is a striped bloodred belly. Looking closer to his tail you can see what GillianC is talking about. He has speckling but no checkers. He just has smudges as I tell him. lol

SUNDANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:)

:-offtopic You would be proud to know he is working hard on Sonya. She will give him a little flirt with her tail and then start side thumping him when he tries to rub all over her. I have only left them together for 2 hours at the most because by that time it seems that one of them is through with it and curled up in the corner of the love tub. I haven't seen evidence yet but I have no fear we will soon.

It looks like my hypo Winchester!

Thank you, great information and the visuals are great. I really appreciate the education.

Not a problem. If you don't know what you are looking for you can get confused and all it takes is seeing a few. If you look at the snake in this thread from top and sides he could confuse you because those sides have a very diminished pattern as well but look at that belly full of checkers. lol He is definitely not a bloodred either.
