heat lamp, heat mat, or heat rock

As has been pointed out elsewhere, this is a 12 year old. As such, he may not have access to online purchasing options or be able to travel to pick up equipment in his area - especially as his Mom is possibly not taking an interest.

We need to be thinking more locally for him.

Doesn't have a car to go make a purchase, parents (allegedly) aren't supportive, can't make an internet purchase, and doesn't have the funds to make a purchase.

Don't waste your time.

Have you tried asking your mom or dad? A tank heater online is usually not more than 15 dollars - I'm sure if you said that you really needed it to keep your pet healthy, your parents might be willing to buy you one. Are they the ones that got you the snake?

PM me your address and I will mail you a UTH and a dimmer control free of charge. Please ask for parental permission though.

The UTH will work for a 10 or 20 gallon aquarium and the dimmer is a lamp dinner. I'll even mark the setting on the lamp dimmer. All you will have to do is attach it to your tank and you will be ready to go.

Kudos to you! It's more than this kid deserves, but I know you're doing it for the snake. Now if only the kid will start taking some of the responsibility of being a pet owner onto his/her own shoulders and gain an ounce of maturity instead of having to be spoon-fed every little thing.

I have turned off the heat in our cornsnakes home....this was recommended by the breeder after she reguritated the first feed we gave her...it has become very hot and humid where we live our house sits at about 80-83 degrees by the afternoon 77-79 at night...we have an under the tank heater. I check what the over night temperature is going to be and plug it back in if I need to depending on temp...Does this sound ok? I have been reading these posts and I have to say I am the mom who didn't want a snake lol But my seven year old did...As a mom I also realize her well being will depend on me. I am new to this so I am sorry if this question seems stupid. I just want to make sure I am doing whats right for Maizey.

If you home is at a nice ambient temperature, this can work very well. When I lived in a place with no A/C, the UTHs on my reptiles didn't come on for months at a time. :)
