Huge disparity in Breeders

I've never argued price. Like I said, I'm taking my reptile purchase seriously and with a lot of thought. I have a lot of questions for breeders that I'm considering purchasing from, all I ask for are informative answers in a timely manner. Pretty simple.

The vast majority of people you deal will be hobbyist. Very very very few are true "businesses."

By "business" I mean someone who sells reptiles only as a full means of supporting their household. I'm talking a 70/30 split or more in favor of hobbyist, probably an 80/20 is more likely.

The people in this thread are some of the top hobbyist around. You would do well to purchase a snake from any of us. Everyone that has replied is passionate and dedicated to this hobby.

Odds are the people you are complaining about would never even stop to read this thread. Instead you had the top notch hobbyist rising to defend themselves and show that's not really the case.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I am not sure what breeders you have tried to contact but I can't imagine any of them that are active on this forum to treat you like that. I do know that I am only sitting with about 35 snakes at my house and my husband makes comments about how much time I spend in the snake room, phone and computer. I can't even imagine those with double, triple, quadruple the amount of snakes I have doing it with full time jobs.

And as someone new, I advise you all to put yourselves in my shoes. I'm new to our hobby and am receiving some terrible service from those that depend on the growth of the hobby

I have put myself in your shoes. Heck I do it a few times a year. I may have had to wait for a response for a day or two but I never felt as though they were rude. At times I have gotten short answers but they are also ones with full time jobs and numbers in the hundreds. It is not their job to baby me and I respect that.

except for Dave, but Dave is his own special designation ;)

dave is taking 9 days off from the "real job" to sort thru 300 hatchlings, send 2/3 to a wholesaler
rather then take individual pictures of each one, resize optimize upload update a website write individual ads throw pinkies at them clean etc
and try to get 25$ each for them
and spending hours with each potential customer
plus packing and shipping time.
& dave still has much to learn.
including that
it is often the considerations not thought of
which can shoot his self in the foot

I will say that nobody in this thread has been contacted by me. To my knowledge, I've contacted 2 regularly posting breeders from this site. One was extremely helpful, and the other I got no response from.

I am not a breeder, that said. Can I recommend Kathy Love's or Don Sodaburg's books on keeping corn snakes. It may be your questions can be answered in these books. Maybe they can be answered in the stickies at the beginning of most forums. You haven't said what questions are not being answered in a timely manner.
I can also say I have spoken to many breeders on here with questions about a specific snake and honestly cannot think of one rude nor non timely answer. Not one.

Take it easy Dave. I was just saying that there's only been 2 from this site. I said this in response to christens post. You're awfully tight wound.

Actually, I know Dave. He is pretty chill. To start a whole thread bashing breeders (and I am sorry, but no matter what you say that is what it FEELS like), based on contacting 2 people from here......seriously, YOU seem to be the one who is all wound up. You are all passive-aggressive and I think we all really want to know what exactly crawled up your butt and died?

Just amazing....

And you are awfully passive aggressive.

See where that is getting us? No where. We WANT to help you. You are not making it easy.

I'm telling you we want to help you and I'm dead serious, but you have to nix this attitude. Honestly wording goes a looooooooong way in a medium that open to interpretation.

Think twice, type once.

If you are replying to a specific post, it is helpful to state in that post to whom specifically you are replying to.

I will be respectful by not presenting assumptions as fact in return.

I simply stated my experience in this hobby, and my displeasure in the customer service.

So one of two people wronged you, huh. What exactly are your questions, I understand not wanting to give names but at least the questions. This might help the breeders on here; one, help answer those questions and two, let them know what is that has you so upset. Just saying bad customer service, out of date web sites and not answering questions doesn't help them help you.

I simply stated my experience in this hobby, and my displeasure in the customer service.

You start a thread after contacting 2..count em 2...people on here.
What a personally consider a nasty dig, a slap in the face to everyone here...
When I get an email from someone, I am happy to answer it. If they decide to buy from me I hope they are thrilled. Updates from people who have my animals make my day.
But after reading this thread, as far as your "experiance in this hobby" I just have to say, my giveadamn is busted. I honestly don't care if you are ever satisfied. And I am pretty sure I am not the only one here who feels this way.

Way to alienate an entire online community!!

Maybe this is not the hobby for you?

I'm not asking any questions. And again, I'm saying there's only 2 from this site, among the other 20 or so that I have contacted. It's not about what I'm asking, it's about getting a informative answer, or any answer at all.

Customer service is like all things in life good and bad. A web page not being updated is not a sign of bad customer service. As so many have stated most of the breeders on here work full time as well as take care of numerous snakes.
Give them some time and if they don't get back to you go else where.
There are many great breeders on here and I have dealt with a majority of them since I have been a member here. And I can say out of all the dealings I have done, I have only had one that really upset me to no end.
And as for the "tightly wound" comment, I know Dave and he is a laid back person and making assumptions about a person's demeanor is no better than say those breeders who didn't get back to you.
I am going to keep an eye on this thread as I don't want to see it go train wrecky but I must say I don't think this whole thread was a good or well thought out idea.
I would say it will do nothing but alienate instead of enlighten.

If I owned a business, or even a hobby in which I sold a product, I would welcome criticisms. It only helps me to hear of things I can improve upon. That was the purpose of this thread, to share my poor experiences and show breeders that every email is important as its easy to lose sight of that. Even if only one breeder reads this and realizes he/she needs to improve their customer service, then good. If the other 99 take it as a personal insult, that's a shame.

No, I expect timely replies that answer my questions fully. Or, just a response at all from those that chose not to reply. Like I said, I'm not attacking anybody personally. I'm saying that 50 percent of breeders I contacted have poor customer service.

You do say you want answers to questions. I'm saying maybe some of the breeders on here could answer these questions.
