My right to bear arms is under fire right now.

Authorities say at least 26 people, including 18 children, were killed Friday when a gunman opened fire inside a Connecticut elementary school.

How very SAD :(

Yes, it is very sad.
But I must point out that it is already against the law to kill people.
Why was he not stopped by this law?

Had it been legal to carry concealed weapon on campus. A teacher, janitor, lunch lady might of been able to stop him sooner.

My heart and prayers go out to all those at Sandy Hook Elementary School. May God hold them a little closer.

I have my kids home today, I gave them some extra love.

Yeah I suppose that's possible, or it could have turned into a full fledged fire fight with even more people dead. You seem to think that the average person who owns a gun is prepared to confront and shoot another armed person. I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Generally those who have their CCP's train dilligantly and stay up to date on target practice. Personally I think that teachers should also be trained as security, or that schools should have security in place. Because right now, they are easy targets for anyone who wants to go on a rampage.

And you seem to think that the average person who owns a gun would allow a maniac to kill children in front of his eyes while he has the power to stop it.

Most people that I know that own guns for protection and have their permits are well aware of the fact they might have to open fire and kill another human being. It is not an easy thing to face.

Like Outcast said those that have the permit train and practice and are in the mind set to do whatever it takes to protect themselves and others.

I believe it is silly to think that the average person who owns a gun isn't prepared.

Are you sure about that? You usually have to take a class and qualify in the handle of the gun before they issue you a conceal carry permit.

Not around here you can't HeavenHell. I don't know what the laws are in your area but it is not that easy here... if it were, I would already have mine.

You can in Wisconsin.

The law which establishes that certification under the Wisconsin hunter education program is one of the acceptable types of training required to obtain a CCW license also states that a substantially similar program that is established by another state, country or province and that is recognized by the Wisconsin DNR would also qualify. The DNR currently recognizes the hunter education programs established by all other states, countries and provinces. If you completed a hunter education program in another state, country or province, and need to get a duplicate copy of your certification, you must contact that state, country or province.

I see that you have to have proof you took the class in writing. I also see where they are trying to change the laws recently to make more classes and training required to obtain the permit

Same with AZ. My dad and brother just took their CC classes out there...after taking hunter safety at the age of 10.

I took hunter's safety when I was about 10, my kids have taken the class as well.

Most states have stricter ccp laws. I also see where Wisconsin has only had the permit for a year as of November 2012. They made the law so none specific to get it off the ground and now are trying to change.

We have a republican governor and legislature for a first time in a long time, so the've been rushing bills through left and RIGHT! They recently opened our state parks up for hunting and trapping and are allowing people to hunt wolves using dogs. What's more sporting than that?

Here is the problem, if you have a highly motivated/deeply troubled individual, there is NO LAW that will stop them.

If someone wants to do something, laws or not, they will find the means to do it. That goes for guns, drugs, violence, anything.

Same in Ohio. Minimum course requirements, backgorund check, and signoff by local sheriff.
