Thought it might be fun to see how many people here keep other reptiles and/or have and (God forbid) have a favourite besides snakes.

I don't have any others at the moment but my hands down favorite has to be Iguana. The one I had cracked me up a couple of times. We fed it a special iguana diet but let it out to roam as it pleased.We had 3 cats and this little nutcase used to love raiding their food dish.One day I had a bag of cat food leaning up against the bar.It had a little circle on the front of the bag with a photograph of the cat food that was inside. This lizard was pecking at that circle trying to get that cat food.

Another time she found a fluorescent pink feather in the hallway (daughter was young at the time). I spotted it hanging out the side of her mouth. I reached down to take it away. Never before and never after have I seen that lizard move so fast. She wanted that feather and knew immediately that I did too.

I have thought about getting another one but they are messy and require constant cage cleaning-but they are cool pets.
 
I wish I had reptiles. I really want a bearded dragon, but I don't really have the room... Sweet little guys, though. I have held a few at a reptile show.

Iguanas are cuties, too. Sounds very entertaining to have one.
 
I went to the vets one time and they had a beard sitting on a limb on the front desk.For the most part you can let lizards roam but not snakes. But I did see a picture one time of a woman's garter that lived on her window sill.She had a little water bowl for it there and it was just happy happy happy to hang out there. That iguana was 3' long and there were times we really thought it might have escaped and had to hunt her down.
 
I had a crested gecko and honestly never bonded with it - at the moment I am looking after a baby dragon for a friend and man that dude rocks!!!! :D:D

always up during the day, looking to see what is going on, runs like a little dinosaur :rofl: tame as anything

only downside is he needs feeding twice a day ...
 
I don't have any other reptiles, but I do have five dogs, a cat, and a betta fish. I'd really like to get a crested gecko, a leachie gecko, and various other snake species. Ooh, I'd also like to get a pair of rats and a pair of budgies.
 
I have a gargoyle gecko, and I love them! But I think someday I need to get a leachie.
Rhacs are the best geckos (IMO)
 
We have a bearded dragon; he was our first reptile. He's 3 now and we've had him since he was maybe 4 weeks old. My son has a leopard gecko and a crested gecko as well. If I ONLY had to have 1 reptile, I would have the bearded dragon just because he's a great, tolerant pet for a family with kids. But snakes are my favorite, personally.
 
Between me and my boyfriend we have:

3 Corn Snakes (2 mine. 1 his)
5 Kingsnakes (4 mine. 1 his)
2 bearded dragons (Both of ours)
5 Leptopelis Uluguruensis/Tree Frogs (All mine)
3 American Toads (All mine)
4 American Bullfrogs (Both of ours)
4 American Green Frogs (All his)
2 Wood Frogs (All his)
1 Yellow Spotted Salamander (His)
1 Goldfish (Mine)
1 Cat (Mine)
1 Dog (Actually my parents but I take care of her)
 
What I have seen of bearded dragons, they are just little characters. I held one at a pet store and he just sat on me like he was as happy as ever. Same with the ones at the reptile show. I scooped one up and it just sat there being cute.
 
I really want a leachie too! They had three really cute babies at the expo we went to today, for a really good price, for a leachie. Was very tempting except that good price or no, still don't have that much money at the moment! They actually had about six for sale at the show from various venders, including one adult or near adult.

Absolute favorite animal though, is small dogs. Then cats. Toss up between any of the reptiles we keep as to favorite reptile though.
 
This is Seamus - he is actually my bf's, but I'm looking after him for the moment.

I really prefer snakes to lizards, but if ever an animal tempted me to keep it he would.


 
ackies...I love my ackies. One of the few reptile regrets I have was selling my first ackie. I purchased a 1 month old yellow ackie from Ron St. Pierre 14 years ago. I was lucky enough to have actually gotten a female. But I had other reptile priorities at the time, keeping her just as a pet. My regret was I sold her in 2002 to fund getting into green tree pythons. I can't really argue the decision as both species are freak'n awesome, but looking back I probably should have been more patient and saved vs sold. I still keep them, but my pair are nothing like my first animal.

Some other cool 4-legged freaks I keep or have kept that I enjoy(ed):
- fresh import pair of African fat-tail geckos (they were massive, huge compared to the CB stuff today).
- my first pair of crested geckos, got a female in '99 and a male in '00. I produced around 60 babies from 2000-fall 2003. My female has been the tamest, calmest crested I've had/seen.
- my first eastern and ornate box turtles. The eastern was released when Myrtle Beach AFB was shut down after Desert Storm. My ornate was caught in 1992 and died in 2004. He had very little shell pattern and virtually no growth rings left on his scutes, so my best guess was old age finally caught up.
- William's electric blue day geckos, my first pair had more personality and quirkiness than a beardie.
- madrean alligator lizards, I never could get my pair to breed but they were fun to watch in their naturalistic tank.
- my first green anole I caught a day after Hurricane Hugo went through Myrtle Beach.
- my first tokay gecko "Toodles", I got him as a birthday present in 1992. It took years, lots of towels, and blood, but I tamed his butt down. I hatched out my first tokays in Dec '98 but neither survived a week for whatever reason. However, my 2nd clutch would hatch in March '99 and I still have the little ^&*# of a male (he's 14 inches and weighs over 140 grams) that I held back. Toodles died in 2002.
- Golden-Eye, though better known by his nickname here at home as Daddy Gecko, was my 15th birthday present in 1996. He's a leopard gecko that was maybe a month of age when I got him. I still have him and his first born, Triton, who hatched on July 25, 1997. 17 and 16 y. o. geckos and I'm shooting for another 17 years out of them.
- 2 obnoxious Russian blue mixes (kitties) that are spoiled about as much as my reptiles, that think it's sunrise every day anywhere from 4-6am whether I'm going to work at that time or have the day off.

Ha. My cat Hermione (she died this summer at age 13 due to cancer) would always do that to me. I got her as a kitten when I was 14 years old. I always woke up around 6am for school. Up until the day she died, she would still always wake me up at 6am though I no longer went to school.


As to bearded dragons, I really love my two. But they are very expensive to feed compared to my other pets. Plus they hate each other and even though I have them caged separately and across the room from each other. If one happens to get a glance at the other, they start showing defensive behavior and stay riled up for the rest of the day. If I hold one, the other starts running around and scratching at the glass trying to get attention. I swear they are like jealous little kids lol!

LOL- Took my present cat a long time to figure out what a snooze button was for. He would bite me to make sure I was awake. I'm happy to report he eventually figured out that the alarm clock was just a SUGGESTION to get out of bed.
 
I don't really know why- but I have been thinking about some of my old pets......

If you ever get a chance to own an armidillo do so. They are fascinating creatures and other than scratching you with their feet- totally harmless. They are marginally trainable and will bond to a certain extent. They can be trained to come when called.... (unlike certain CATS I know.)......

Interesting factoid - armadillos are the only creature besides humans who can carry leprosy...
 
I have always dreamed of keeping a armadillo! !
aha, not a clue why, but I have just always thought that they were the most adorable animals, one of my favorites hands down! ;)

but living in Canada.. poses its issues with finding armadillos.. aha! :laugh:
a permit would definitely be needed and keeping them inside is just unfair to them, so ill continue to dream..:eek:
