Corn Snake Success at Tinley!

DollysMom

It never gets old!
I'm pleased to introduce the new little girl I just brought home from Tinley. She has no name yet, and I'm taking my time with that decision. There certainly was a good selection, though ball pythons seem to predominate. So many snakes and so little time. What a rush to be there among so many herp lovers. How cool to see some of the big names in the business. And yes, I did see my first palmettos! Just slightly out of my price range... but I digress.

So how did a normal and checker belly lover come home with a butter motley? Well, when I saw her I knew. I did hold her and the okeetee next to her, but there was no question, this little girl was mine. Next to Dolly, she is the most beautiful and wonderful snake I've ever seen (and shouldn't your "mother" love you like that?)

Without further ado here is her first picture on arrival at home.

No weight yet, though I weighed her in her deli cup so when I can subtract the tare I'll have it. She's chilling in her deli cup in the viv and I'm giving her, her space right now. I also don't have a hatch date yet because its in Julian on the bottom of the deli cup, but she's about 2 months old. She's on frozen thawed and last ate on Monday.

I bought her a new baby size rock cave warm hide and a new small cork round as well as put in a few toilet paper rolls so when she departs the deli cup, she has plenty of hiding places.

I'm so happy. I was kinda hoping that Dolly would be sitting in the middle of the living room floor to greet his new sis, but no joy. That's the only thing that would make this day even better.

Though we couldn't stay the day we still had a total blast at Tinley. Here's a few pretty self explanatory pics.

Congratz DollysMum, very nice girl. I love butters. I envy you who have space to keep more than one!
PD: Are those in the deli cups picture all palmettos!? Would love to have one (steals a deli cup).

We have the Spanish expo next Saturday in my province, so near home, but I think I'm not gonna go because I WILL buy something and I just can't do it. So frustrating!

You can bet I've probably handled your little one, though I'm surprised they took some from that rack. And yeah, RbM uses Julian dating. It's weird and hard to keep track of sometimes. Thought of a name yet?

Thank you. Don't envy too much. Dolly escaped September 22 and is still missing. If and when he turns up, I will make room for two, but it was not the original plan. Luckily, a stand that will hold two vivs in the space of one is pretty easy to construct. I still have great hope I will see Dolly again.

Rest assured the lid that Dolly escaped from has been reinforced with a couple of Velcro straps. No snake can escape the way Dolly did. I think of it as a snake fortress now ;)

Yes, those are all little palmettos in the deli cups. Even though I've seen pictures, it was amazing to stand in front of a whole bunch of them. There were adults, too. Amazing to see an $8000 corn snake! They sure are pretty.

In a way, it's good to go and not buy because when you are buying that mission is the main thing. If I hadn't had a baby to get home, I would have stayed longer and gone to some of the programs.

First, I thought of you. I knew you weren't there or I would have introduced myself. It's nice to know you were there to help give her a good start.

Fortunately, Google is my friend and when I can get the date off the cup, I'll look it up.

I just settled on a name 5 minutes ago. I'm going to call her Cleo, short for Cleopatra. Do you remember the beautiful gold dress Liz Taylor wore in the movie? Cleo is dressed in gold, too. Also the queen Cleopatra always had the snake headdress :).

Cool! :dancer:
I've been wanting to get home from work to see what happened! Glad you found Cleo ... she's very pretty! Nice name too. Is that a pic of you in the blue shirt? That's a happy face for sure. I know you and Cleo will have great times together. Cleo doesn't know how lucky she is!

Thank you! I'm glad I found her too. As we had discussed, when I saw "the one" I knew. When it's right the pieces just fall into place. Right now, she is curled up asleep under the bedding in the deli cup in the viv, partly over the UTH and partly not. I see she is on the heated side.

No, no selfies, but my smile would be just as big. The lady in the blue shirt is Lori Barczyk. The guy next to her is her husband Brian. They run BHB and also had a lot of corns, probably the most corns at the show. Hard to tell 'cause Travis Whisler had a lot of corns, too, along with Reptiles by Mack. Anyway they are nice folks and I really enjoy their YouTube shows. It was great meeting them!

They only take team leads and managers to shows unfortunately. :) I'm about to be in a wedding in Louisville anyway so I couldn't have gone. Next year!

What a perfect name, I love it! Cleopatra was also rumored to have worn ball pythons on her wrists, hence their other name: royal pythons.

Hope you have a great time at the wedding. Be sure to let me know when you do go to Tinley, so I can say hi. I'm already planning to go again in the spring. It sure is one big happy herp party.

I'm glad you like the name. I knew ball pythons were also called royals but I didn't know why. That's so neat. Thanks.

Btw, now Cleo is curled in the aspen under the deli cup in the viv!

Cleo is a nice name for a little girl snake. Cleo(patra) was a snake lady herself.

I was reading some of the posts in this thread. You saw an $8,000.00 corn snake??? (Gasp) Was it gold plated or what?

Is that you in the picture with the BHB snake guy? I've seen a lot of his tv and video stuff - SnakeBytes TV

Thanks for the kind word on the name. I once went to a special show about Cleopatra at the Field Museum and even saw a sample of her handwriting on papyrus. They also had Liz Taylor's gold dress from the movie as an example of cultural influence. That was so neat and has always stuck with me so when my little butter needed a name...

Gold plated? Naw, just a palmetto, lol. Now that I think on it, it may have been $8000 for a pair. Still it's a huge number to see on a corn snake!

No, that's Brian's wife Lori. It was fun meeting them. I enjoy snakebytes.tv especially since he's had a lot of stuff about corns. He also recently had a show about African house snakes. My son has an AHS, so we watched that show together.

Ah yeah, that's the price per pair for sure. Yeah my boy is costing me an arm and a leg, but man is he beautiful. Pics when I'm done paying him off... Lol!

I'm looking forward to those pics. Only an arm and a leg? A bargain for sure ;)

In person the palmettos were totally amazing. They are truly gorgeous snakes.

Cleo morning update

Well, she proved herself the queen for sure. Overnight, little Cleo selected to hide out in the brand new cork round and not in the toilet paper rolls ;). Only the best for this little lady.

I was able to subtract the tare of the deli cup. So 33-19 is 14 grams. Still single pinky territory according to Munson, but probably not for long. I plan on feeding one small pinky tomorrow evening and then put her on a five day schedule. The first feeding will be in viv to give her a little more time to acclimate.

Still don't have a hatch date. When I was able to look, it was not a Julian date on the bottom of the deli cup, but I'm presuming a clutch code (Z40-15), so I emailed RbM and asked if they could get that date for me.
