Hi all!

So I have already mentioned this a couple times in various places, but with my excitement level being what it is, I just can't resist making a formal thread about it...

Anyway, towards the end of August, I will be receiving a scaleless tessera hatchling!!!! She (sexed as female by her breeder) will be around two months old by the time she arrives, and no doubt still teeny tiny. I never cease to be amazed by just how miniscule young corns are, compared to adults. I absolutely cannot wait. Delivery will be between the 22 and 31st August (they will give me an exact date closer to the time) and my goodness I hope it's more towards the 22 end (though knowing my luck it won't be).

I will inundate you all with pics when she arrives, you can guarantee it. I'll also probably have a bunch of questions as my older corn came to me as a yearling and so I missed his teeniest neonate stage.

So... Anyone else expecting any additions soon? Or recently acquired some? Anyone else have a scaleless tessera (or any other morphs, I don't care) for me to ogle?
 
Yay how awesome! I would love to add some scaleless to my collection someday. Babies are just SO TINY! My first came to me at 6g and now seeing him next to my '16 hatchlings I can't believe he was ever so small and delicate.
 
If you don't mind me asking, what are tessera scaleless running across the pond there? The few I saw last year were over $1000 USD, one being an anery tessera scaleless was listed at $1400, and the 2016 ones I've seen are all currently NFS.

On this side of the pond, scaleless are fairly newish still, with some of the first scaleless tessera popping up within the last year or 2 (to my knowledge). For comparison, 2015 het scaleless are going for roughly $425 USD. The few breeders with 2016 scaleless available right now have them at $750 USD.

Well, this little female cost me £500, but I was offered a normal het caramel scaleless for £180, with caramel siblings offered at £250. I considered the normal as I find both tessera and normal patterns beautiful in scaleless, and I specifically wanted the normal colour pallet. The substantially lower price was tempting but in the end I went with the tessera as she came from a long-standing breeding business with excellent reviews whereas the normal was from a hobbyist breeder without much information available. Call me mad if you like but I wanted the security of a seller who was known and generally well-regarded :)
 
Just to add, scaleless do not seem rare here. I know you notice things more when you're interested in them, but various Facebook groups I'm in seem to suddenly have a lot of people posting scaleless pics. I think they have finally reached a price point where they are accessible to people looking for a cool pet, albeit a rather expensive one, rather than just breeders, intending to recoup the costs.

This makes sense though, as the scaleless originated out of France. I don't do FB, but my wife does so occasionally we'll skim through the cornsnake and colubrid stuff. Almost all of what I did see, save 1 group that required you to be a member to view anything, were animals produced over in Europe and I think Canada. Either way, they'd still require import and hefty shipping. While scanning there was even someone in the UK with 2016 palmettos for $2800 USD, whereas over here they are still $4000 USD. THAT was tempting to go for as I'd still be under $4000 with importation and shipping.

Reptilis has pretty reasonable prices for scaleless corns. I'd considered saving up for an adult during pre-brumation sales, but that'll have to wait now.

Importing from the UK isn't too horrible if you're already spending a few thousand on a single animal. I think I paid about $120 last time? Probably worthwhile. If I had the cash on hand and didn't already have a male I'd be tempted.
 
If I see an affordable one at Daytona, I'm in trouble...

I'd LOVE to have a scaleless tessera! Congratulations!!

I tried, VERY hard at that, to score a caramel scaleless female earlier this year with intentions of pairing to my caramel tessera. I had cash in-hand, ready to roll, but the individual wound up pairing it with something and pulled her off market.

I'm waiting on Daytona...not going most likely. But last year because of Daytona, het scale corns pairs were going for $500+ at NARBC. I should have bought then as those animals probably would have bred this season based upon their size last year.

Agreed! Everyone starts somewhere, but having the security of a known, well established breeder should anything arise is definitely a comfort.

I bought a crimson Miami baby from Heather a couple months ago, and keep forgetting about him!!! I'm not in a rush, because it's so hot out.

Ahh, luckily for me, it's very unlikely to get too hot to ship here - the rubbish British summer does have some advantages, I guess XD
 
UPDATE: I have just heard from the courier company and my little lass will be arriving a week today (23/08)! Needless to say the hype is real - I have already booked the day off work and will be setting her enclosure up over the next few days XD
