feeding variety

hey folks

just a wee question not all that important just a point of view kind of thing.

do snakes need variety in feeding, ive been reading a lot of posts regarding chicken necks, hamsters etc, is this more likely to be variety for the snakes owner rather than the snake itself?

i dont plan on changing cos loki's happy with mice, but i reckon she'd eat anything as she is a pig.

In terms of nutritional value mice will suffice a corn it's entire life.

I don't know what mice taste like to snakes, and I don't know other mentioned prey items taste like either. If a snake is willing to enthusiastically eat the same prey item time and time again I see no reason to change it.

But if I were a snake, I would want gourmet rodent dishes... finely chopped and coated in the sweetest of pinkie brain juice... oh yum :)

I have a "if it's not broke don't fix it" policy. lol My guys are perfectly happy and healthy eating mice...if I want to "spice" things up, I give them an appropriate sized rat. :)

There is no need to feed variety, corns have no issues eating mice their whole life. They grow and breed with out any problems on a mouse diet. I like the advice another person gave, "if it aint broke, dont fix it."

Now, some species, like mexicana complex kings, can benefit from a variety, like FT diurnal lizards, but for corns, there is no need.

My snakes get PLENTY of variety!
There are white mouseicles,
black mouseicles,
brown mouseicles,
and spotty mouseicles
not to mention
boy mouseicles
and girl mouseicles!

I LOVE the fact that my snakes are so UN-picky about eating mice day in and day out. If I had to provide variety, I would be keeping less snakes. :grin01:

Mice! Mice! A wonderful treat....So let's have mice for every meal.

Clearly I needed for sleep ;)

my corns started to refuse mice after four yrs of eating them, I tried rats and they have not looked back. I have tried mice since but they play with it, and end up not eating it. I believe its up to the snake, not the keeper.
