These are some pics I got of my chinchilla, Pikachu. She is super-cute and getting more friendly by the day! I let her out in my bathroom because it's small and relatively easy to chinchilla proof.

How cute is that, and bigger then I thought. I guess I thought they were the size of a rat. very cute, susang

Very cute!

Reminds me of my Primary school's class pets, 2 Chincillas named 'Posh' and 'Becks' - Kids eh?.

Oooooooooooooh, and I love the name!!! I loved Pikachu! I even had a Pikachu alarm clock (given to me by a friend...!)! It's pathetic -- I could even imitate Pikachu and how he would "speak" his moods through saying his name...:p (Not that that was too hard to do -- but imagine a 20-something year old doing it...:uhoh: !) Very cute chinchilla! I'd really love to get a sugar glider -- but alas, the boyfriend has put his foot down...well, for now, at least...;)

Thank you! Now that I have my own house, there's no one to put their foot down about more fuzzies (except maybe my wallet- but it doesn't have feet!). I think my next fuzzy, sort of, will be a pygmy hedgehog. I find them very interesting and fun to watch. They had some at the herp store the other day. Very cool critters. I had considered gliders, but I was reading a bit about them, and the space they need and attention, and decided that for now they are not the best fit.

She's so cute! How long do they live?

15-20 years is average. I figure she was born sometime in 2007. She is a pet store chinchilla, so there's no knowing for sure. She is getting friendlier by the day, but friendly for a chinchilla is different than friendly for, say, a cavy. A friendly chinchilla will climb all over you- legs, shoulders, even head, but don't you DARE try to pick him up! If you try he will hop away and chitter at you.

That was another suprising thing I learned that the books don't really talk about much. Chins can be quite vocal and mine definitely is! She has several noises I have heard including teeth chattering, barking, and growling, which she uses to intimidate the dog when need be (and it works!). It's always so much fun to me to bring in a completely new animal and try and "figure it out." :dancer:

I was surprised at how much rats talk. I swear one has learned to make the sound of a tail rattle. I also think they love to make more noise when we try to watch TV. susang

Hey, I just noticed you have a jungle corn too. Can you post a pic of it??
I would love to see what yours looks like.

Every time I see one at the local Petco, I'm so tempted to add one to my collection. There is nothing in my lease agreement about them... wonder if the cat/dog non-refundable deposit would apply to one :)

Certainly an adorable looking thing :)

When I was in an apartment, I was told that that only applies to things that do not spend much of their time caged.

Sure here it is although when I posted pics of it no one was really sure what it is and there is no way for me to find out. Except everyone agreed hybrid, or integrade.

AWWW!!!

:-offtopic I always call chinchillas "crack bunnies". They remind me so much (physically) of bunnies, but in my experience, are much more *cough* energetic.
