Cloverfield!!!

Just got back!! It was great! Anyone else seen it yet?

From Metacritic:

If films could reproduce, then Cloverfield would be the love-child of Godzilla and the Blair Witch. With a giant PO'ed monster terrorizing a big city and camera-work that makes you want to hurl, this horror-disaster flick promises to be one heck of a ride!

The person I went with FELL ASLEEP!! First time I've ever seen him fall asleep at a film, in six years. (The ex). You're ok going by yourself. It's not the kind of scary where you have to grab onto someone.

I liked Planet Terror more. And No Country For Old Men. Those are two of the very best films I have ever seen. But this is a new year! I loved how it was filmed, I liked the characters, it had a couple funny things they said, the monster was icky, and you were kept in suspense about it for quite a while, I liked the end. I don't have any complaints. I liked the Blair Witch video camera filming- that made it really cool. I'd rate it 8 out of 10. I don't feel the urge to run out and buy it the second it comes out on DVD (as I did with PT and will with NCFOM) but it is definitely a must-see-in-theatre film. I thought the CG (is that what you call the special effects?) was flawless.

I went to see it with three of my friends around lunchtime. I thought it was pretty good but I liked I Am Legend better (Last movie I saw in theatres). The way they filmed it was cool but I almost got a headache from the jerky movement, haha. IMO, the ending wasnt that great. I guess I like happy endings more but overall it was a good movie.

Dave, you know what I really liked? How it begins with them together, and they go to Coney Island, and then all that stuff happens, and then it cuts back in to the end of that day.

Yea they did a lot of the switching back and forth between the videos. I liked how they opened it with the going away party and everything. Then it leads into the the attack. The creature thing was weird but the film makers did a great job!

The switching was because the friend put in the wrong tape- that the guy didn't want to record over, because of the Coney Island trip.

Yea, I remember when the attack just had happened and Hud(?) said he had it on tape. He went to show it and it went back to when they were together on April 27th.

I just don't like going to movies by myself - not because I am jumpy or anything, but I like to share the experience with someone and have someone to discuss it with on the way home...
I am going to work on talking Jeff into going...
Still haven't seen I Am Legend or No Country For Old Men yet either.
I did get Planet Terror for Christmas but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I don't think we've posted any spoilers! Jenn, you have to tell us what effects your friend did!

Katie, you have to get Death Proof, too. They are inter-related. But totally different. When I walked out of Planet Terror, I called a friend and told him I'd just seen the best film of my entire life!

I really want to see Cloverfield but will have to wait awhile, I live in the sticks and movies aren't released her in a timley manner.
I love spoilers, I would appriciate if anyone could PM me with details on the monster:)

I'm sorry to put a damper on this thread..but IMO this movie was not good at all...It raised a lot of questions that never got any answers..It doesn't explain where the monster came from or what happened that drew it to the city...The camera was blurry and shakey most of the movie, Some of the choices the characters made were just plain out dumb and not neccesary..I was just not impressed by it at all..It felt like I was watching a blair witch meets old school godzilla type flick...I don't mind that other people liked it but since this movie was raised in opinion...I just thought I would give mine..:shrugs:
