Snakes in designer genes
New members

eMies in Ottawa has a most excellent avatar and a new amel. 10 points for guessing the reference in his name still up for grabs!
autumn75 has gone the route of researching before buying a snake ... good on you!
rara.lou (British newbie) got her first snake yesterday.
Wonderapple has three gorgeous corns, and some pictures to show us of them, yaay - we love photos!
TRRD is our last newbie introducing himself this week. Four gorgeous snakes, but check out that anery motley, it's amazing.

Talking points

The undeniable "big debate" of the week - Scaleless corns - no worse than amels, or like breeding one legged black polar bears with no arms?
Is your corn snake nasty? Do you know what temperature it was incubated at? Maybe there's a link...
Please don't turn your corn snakes inside out. But have a look at a little bit of inside out snake here.
Compare your 07s size with the rest of them - all we know is, they're definitely all different.
Is blood after mating normal
will males breed with males?

This one's in my notes as just "wow bloodred". I think that describes Gib_one's blood just fine

And finally - the ghost bloods. This week we have ghost bloods from cornhybrid, XCIN, Pasadoma, and Lexcorn.

Quotes of the week

"Nothing short of a category 5 hurricane heading straight for my home that week-end can keep me away from Daytona." - nobody accuse Susan of not being dedicated

"Man, the dead horse is nothing but a red stain at this point!" - Thanks, Roy Munson. What beautiful imagery.

"I am not perfect" - Joejr14. C'mon, surely we don't agree with that!

Great job on the WIR!

I still love that Bloodred! Perfect example of why they are called such!

Thanks people :)

And sorry Jen - but the idea of the WIR is to highlight interesting and useful threads or information that could be missed, or that people want to refer back to. Time was short, and instead of posting nothing at all, I decided to make sure I posted something worth reading rather than nothing at all. I'm glad you appreciated the effort I did go to though! Makes it all worth it to see your :( face and cheery comment.

I personally always think it's the interesting threads that I value most in the WIR ... finding out information I might have missed. I like looking at photos, but this is a discussion forum, not flickr! So obviously my take on the WIR will tend towards what I feel will be interesting and valuable to the majority of readers in the future too (isn't part of the idea that it's an archive?).

Sorry I seemed ungrateful. I know you guys who write the WIR do so on your own time and don't always have time to include everything or everybody. Each person does it different, like some people mention birthdays or new snakes or pairings. And, You did include a thread started by me! Thanks. I am just going to quit expecting any of my pics or new snakes to be featured in the WIR section and just try to enjoy it for what it is.

Toyah, I appreciate the job most of you do for the WIR. I just wish it wasn't always so biased. I've had one link to a new aquisition thread and that was after I asked the writer to include me. Even at that I guess I should have said 'new aquisition in the title'. I think just some expected guidlines would be nice at least then we know what we're trying to get in.

Well, if it helps I don't think I've ever had anything featured in the WIR!

I hope you don't think my effort was biased, susan - I tried my best not to be, I just kept details of links that I liked through the week. And Jen, you didn't seem ungrateful, but I did seem snappy - sorry. Hope we're okay :)

WIR is presumably supposed to bring the community together and be a bit of fun, but I can see how it ends up not being that if people feel like they're outside of "the clique" and so overlooked - and it's something that needs done every week, not just most weeks, or people like Cornsnake124 (who seems to have joined in a "week off") will end up feeling unhappy about it.

If the WIR is not bringing community happiness and instead just annoying or upsetting people, then maybe it is time to quit it.

Yeah you have Toyah, I featured that fabulous opal boy of yours before ;)

I honestly don't mean to seem bias in my approach to the WIR, I miss things out if I don't see them or only scan threads. Afterall, I write the WIR on the day it's due (usually) so it's always a long job and it does get rushed in places.

I don't think there is intentional bias in the WIR (or well I can speak for myself). I know I have a tendancy not to include photographs taken on camera phones that show a mere bured outline of a snake. I pick quality photographs and topics that interest me, so obviously the way each writer does the WIR will vary vastly. I wouldn't call that bias, simply a "quality" standard.

Of course we are good and I didn't mean to come across as a whiner but I guess I did. :uhoh:
