MY friend has been using herpes instead of herps... needless to say everyone is avoid him. But I can't help but laugh when I hear him say. "Hey guys wanna see my herpes."
Although they're just as contagious!
I don't know how true it is but my herp professor told us that herps got their name from herpes. Something about "scientists back in the day thought that reptiles and amphibians crawling along looked like herpes spreading". Kinda gross to think about but its mildly entertaining.
I had to look it up. Both herpes and herpetology can trace back to the root Greek word (insert 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' reference here) hérpein, which is to creep or spread. Herpes comes directly from Greek, hérpés, which literally is "a creeping", whereas herpetology came from Greek work herpetó, a creeping thing.I don't know how true it is but my herp professor told us that herps got their name from herpes. Creepy!
All hail the woman who isn't too lazy to actually do some research!
