Hybrid or not..All guesses welcome....

We've had this little girl since she was a couple of weeks old....She was given to us so we didn't complain:dancer:
As it's growing we are getting doubtful as to whether this is a 'pure' corn. The head seems too long, it looks more Rat like than corn like....Here's a few pics of her, see what you think...and if you think it's a cross or not say what you think is in the mix...

I also don't see a hybrid. On another note, corns can have greatly varying sized heads! My little Okeetee has a TINY head for his body...takes him for ever to eat. I guess he has small-head syndrome ::rolfl::

Colors are a little odd - IF THAT IS AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF IT - but nothing is telling me "HYBRID!" Of course, if in doubt, I respect you for saying it may be a hybrid instead of assuming pure like so many irresponsible people do.

What makes you believe it isn't a pure corn? Remember that ratsnakes are known to have phenotypic plasticity in head. Head shape can be a strong indicator of hybridism IN SOME CASES, but it should not be used as conclusive evidence. Besides, the head looks pretty cornsnake-ish to me. How about posting a direct dorsal image of it...instead of just the angle images that tend to mask actual head shapes.

I can't post a dorsal as my pc is having a montage moment as well...LOL
As soon as it's fixed I'll post some up to date pics...The colours are spot on for realism...
It was last night we decided that it was worth posting the question of purity...We were looking at her and the head seemed to have the classic long thin look of the Rat....That and the colouring made us wonder if it was a rogue...
The general consensus, at the moment, is saying corn though. So until I can post a dorsal we'll run with that...Thanks everyone for the replies ...

Looks pure corn to me in both color and shape. I have quite a few corns that color, especially from my zigzag line. The wild corns around my area are close to that color as well (my zigzag line originates from local wc corns). People are getting too used to seeing corns with alot of red, which has been selectively bred for over many generations. They've "forgotten" that many wild corns are colored more like the snake in question.

:dancer::dancer:EXCELLENT.......Things are on the up in the 'wispera household.

So the next question is....What would be the best mate for her...I have a nice amel, but would he be a good choice...Or should I look around for something else....

Well if she's not a hybrid (which she doesn't seem to me either), then she's a Normal. If you breed her with an Amel (or any other morph) you'll get all Normals unless she has unknown hets.

After that, it's a toss-up whether the offspring will inherit Mum or Dad's "Normal" look. You could end up with a bunch of sweet but unexciting hatchlings.
