Red Rat Snake?

Quick questions--
A coworker of mine asked if I wanted a snake--she said her boy friend was thinking of getting rid of his snake. I asked what kind of snake it was and if she had any pictures. She told me it was a red rat snake and that she'd try to find some pics--she said it was about as long as from the tip of her fingers to the elbow of her other arm--which was as confusing in person as in print.

I tried to look up red rat snakes on-line and all I came up with was that it was a different (and obsolete) name for corn snakes. Is there a red rat snake? What differences are there between them an corn snakes? What information should I ask about this snake?
 
Corn Snakes are also known as Red Rat Snakes. So, don't worry, you found out the right information!:wavey:
 
My real question is if there is a snake that is called a Red Rat snake that is NOT a corn snake. As in could this really be a rat snake and not a corn snake?
 
I watched the video, funny, but I wish Steve is still alive!


I searched the red rat snake, and it only pop up with normal corn snakes.
Alot of people call them red rat snake, because they are same family of rat snake and
they are a normal corn..just my thought.
 
yeah but he also decided that "chicken snake" is -another name for a corn... and that's wrong.
 
I think more people call the black rat a chicken snake, but down here, if it eats your birds, it's a chicken snake. Kind of like "chicken hawk."

yep, they used to be called Red Rats years ago.
But when you see a Normal corn snake that looks like this, its pretty easy to call them Red Rats.
