Why are striped amels so hard to photograph..

I tried but I couldn't quite capture the beauty of this snake. In most of the pics Sunshine looks washed out and you can't quite get how orange she is. She is hopefully going to be mom to some nice butter stripes some day. I tried a few different settings (it doesn't help that she hid her head all the time lol)

thought it was a butter stripe from the first pic, and got confused, then i read your post, anyway thats a lovely stripe... I'll just add lots of orange in my head.... lovely snake :)

Well, she's het for caramel so she is rather buttery. I think the name Sunshine suits her. The third and fourth pics are kind of closer to what she looks like :)

Looks like a butter stripe there, even though it is supposed to be an amel.. Outside with a full sun day, and the picture taken under the full shade of a tree.. Should help a little with the Point and Shoot..

Nope, it's an amel stripe unless Rich Z made a mistake... I have a male caramel stripe so I should be able to prove it out one way or another :)
Full sun days here are few and far between...

Hey Jen, gorgeous snake. I too thought butter at first glance and I should know better because I have a male striped amel that is very similar in color. Isn't it odd how some morphs are more readily available than others? I was just having this conversation with a friend about Blood stripes, Fires and Fire stripes. I rarely see these available and yet I think they are beautiful desirable animals. My thought, for what it's worth, was that the parents are being used in other projects and any offspring that do become available are merely the byproducts of the main breeding endeavor. Striped Amels probably fall into this category. I know I produce some in my Striped Opal and my Butter stripe projects.

I have the hardest time getting pics to look good of any of my light colored snakes... They are always bleached out... Since the majority of the snakes I own are light colored, I really enjoy taking pics of my few darker ones I have... (3 Bloodreds, 1 Hypo)
I wish it was easier, maybe I just need a really expensive camera and it will do all of the work for me... ;)

I need to get me a blue bowl ;)

I agree it's very difficult to capture their exceptional color. I have been trying for quite a while. Using blue to contrast does seem to help.
These pics were taken the same day; the first two indoors (she really looks dull)...but you can see the difference from the outside shot, the natural light and the blue sky contrast help!
Her color is true in the last pic.

Sunshine is a very pretty snake. I look forward to seeing her "true colors"!
