snAKE TAKES BIGGEST POO ON CARPET?

Just a request, please take off the CAPS LOCK when posting. It's rather annoying.

To answer your question, no one can answer it. Your snake does it because he wants to. There's really no specific reason why.

Snakes have a digestive process too, and have no reason to "hold it". A lot of the time you can tell when a corn is about to take a dump--you can see a lump around their vent. I tend to wait until after my corn has pooped to take him out and handle him--less clean up for me and less stress for him.

Also make sure you're not handling your corn right after he's eaten. Wait a few days and then check it out--you can handle your corn after he's come out of hiding, after the lump in his body has dissapeared, and/or after you see poop in his cage.

It's safest to wait until after you see poop in his cage.

There's no way to keep your snake from pooping. Asking why he poops is like asking why humans do so. That's just the way it is, only snakes, unlike us, don't have any control whatsoever over when and where it happens.

Somoa is a trooper. She always poops after a nice bath. Even a few days after the bulge in their stomach has disappeared, you still have to look out for the new bulge forming near the vent. Usually a bath or some exercise is enough to get them to poop; unfortunately, much of that exercise comes from being picked up and cruising through your fingers. So you just have to be careful.

You know how you squeeze toothpaste out of a tube? Now imagine that your toothpaste is alive and feeling a little too full. It's going to rub up against things and crawl through stuff to try to squeeze out the excess toothpaste.

Same basic principal. ;)

BUT: PLEASE don't try to squeeze the poop out of your snake! He'd be very offended indeed.

Nobody has mentioned yet in the various poop threads (maybe for good reason) something I read about in a book I believe is called "corn snakes and other rat snakes" called musking, where they will vacate their bowels when they feel threatened. This makes sense, because people say snakes will poo on them when they are holding them etc. Anyone else heard of musking?

Musking is WAY different than pooping, and you'll know it when you've been musked on. The smell is much worse, and it has a completely different feel to it. I've been musked on a couple of times, and let me tell you, it's gross.

Garters musk too, and I'd never thought of it as pooping. I thought it was more like peeing. It is extremely yucky. D:

It's similar to what a skunk does when it feels threatened. ;)

Yeah, but some snakes just musk, and others dump out EVERYTHING and then SQUEEZE to make sure they are getting out every last drop, and then INVERT all their parts, and WHIP their tail around to make sure you are liberally coated with it all. I have two of those, and two that just musk.

I got 1 snake that does that, and you said it far more eloquently than I could have. It's basically all the waste products they can generate. Except I swear mine holds it until he sees me!

I don't mind the monumental spewing so much. At least you know it's coming. What I hate is when I'm about 30 minutes into a TV show, with a big snake around my neck, and all of the sudden there's a horrible smell and my back and neck are wet...THAT is gross.

Might be because the animal got out and had some exercise? tends to make anything wanna dump after being caged up for a while.. You'll get the same effect if you put it in a luke warm bath... Crap every wheres..

Regards.. Tim of T and J
