Update on scout the black rat snake

"I said on page 1 I would go back to normal routene "

I think the point was that you shouldnt have been shoveling food down the snakes throat to begin with.

I think the reason people got upset with you is because of your attitude. You act like you know everything there is to know and when people correct you then you start acting like they're flaming you.

You need to realize that a lot of times people jsut get irritated with apparent ignorance. As I've said before you need to be thankful that people with more experience (not just with herps but in living period) actually pay attention to you and are willing to pass along their knowledge. Knowledge that some have learned first hand. Realizing that you do NOT know everything will benefit you greatly.

Don't try to turn the blame on everyone else here, not when you are to blame for stuff as well.

OMG IT'S SO MUCH FUN TO GET MY KIKZ JUMPING ALL OVER A KID WHO'S ALREADY APOLOGIZED. CAN WE BEAT HIM SOME MORE? PLEEEZE???

:nope:

LBoz has an excellent point here. I feel like maybe we are feeding the fire.

If anything, just wait a few days and I'm sure he will post up something else that requires our unappreciated advise.
And honestly I will try my hardest to ignore him in that one too...I have a feeling he gets on here and posts for the attention, and that's all we are doing is giving him just what he wants.

David, I give you a week...I will disregard your ignorant threads for a week. After that, if you are still posting these ridiculous things just be ready to hear even more from even more people.

It's no big deal if you have a problem and you fix it. But first you drop one snake. Then you grossly overfeed another. You claim to have tons of ratsnake books laying around. If all your snakes are fed, I suggest you leave them alone for a week and read up.

These are my final thoughts on the matter. And I am sorry if it seems that we have all been attacking you, however I am sure many people would get agitated when they are giving sound advice and someone else (you) doesn't want to listen.

I like your little herald and look forward to seeing his progression.

You come on a touch strong, David...it can be hard not to strike back. We ARE snake people after all. I see on your other forum that you've made a lot of great strides to be a more active participator, and if you take that same stance here, you're gonna be ok. The fact that you somewhat won over Chris speaks volumes. That man knows of what he speaks with the documtation to back it up, so you need to be careful to you challenge to a duel. Not everything you do is wrong, but it wouldn't hurt you to take a page out of an experienced keepers book to see what might work a bit better for you. Try the :quick to listen, slow to speak" theory. Choose your words carefully when you want to make a post, especially if outside the "norm" of what's already tried and trued. If you mix into that a pinch of humility, it will take you much further than you've gotten with this method. We have a great bunch of keepers here who truly value the snake more than the keeper, so you need to find your niche in that environment. Put your snakes first and ask for correction when needed....I guarantee you'll learn more here with this myriad of keepers than you will in a testbook...not that books are bad, but at some point you need to jump in and do it, and that's where you are right now. Nothing wrong with that, but it's unlikely you'll come with a brand new way of keeping that hasn't already been tried and tested, and yet here we are, mice and rats That many keepers can't be all wrong, can they?

That is an excellent way to put things!! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in a situation, that we forget that snakemaster is a younger member and learning. We can't expect that everyone who comes here, knows everything. I realize that I don't! I think we need to give a chance, open our wings and hand em a lollipop.;)

THANKS for leveling,

Wayne

Definitely well put. My issue is when someone is given sage advise and defends their obvious mistakes. I always assume I know nothing, ask questions no matter where they may rank on the stupid scale, and then listen real hard when an experienced voice shares an opinion especially backed up by evidence. We have all been young, new it all, and thought our poo didn't stink; too be young is too be arrogant but thats why young people should not be the sole decision makers with their animals. I guess my issue is not with you David, but your parents who need to research your animal interests and act as guides in their care. I don't want to pick on a child or make you feel unwelcome- I am new here too, but I learn here everyday and take the free advise given here seriously and as a gift. Every comment you have gotten whether stated delicately or not are gifts you should unwrap with gratitude!

David... you're doing it again.

I was VERY impressed with how you handled yourself and started asking questions, posting more and bragging/pontificating less after the last incident. And trust me, I am NOT easily impressed, especially by teenagers because I deal with them and their egos all day!

That being said....

You're doing it again. People who know more than you are saying "Hey, ease up." And you argue with them and it turns into a debate. Stop hiding behind other forums and friends. Take that next step to adult-hood and stand by YOUR thoughts and beliefs, but please base them on SOLID facts.

I've been keeping snakes for 3 years now. I currently have 12 snakes in my care here. A month ago, I had 13. Then I made a stupid, stupid mistake and my baby Nelson's got out from a cage I had improperly secured and died because of it. It was MY fault David, and I have three years experience! I tell people with less experience than me all the time "LOCK YOUR VIVS! Be careful! Be diligent!" and it still happened to me.... time in the hobby matters not... number of snakes matters not... size of those vast quantities of snakes matters not... and venom matters not... what truly sets an expert apart from a neophyte is the WILLINGNESS and ability to learn new things, to sort good from bad information, and to expand his or her practices to accomodate new thoughts, ideas and information. What makes a person an expert is the wisdom to know when they need to bow to someone else who, at the moment, has more relevant experience....

There's nothing wrong with admitting you're not doing something right, David... there's nothing wrong with incorporating the advice of others who have been there done that-- it saves time and may save your snakes life. I agree with others... humility (meaning the act of being humble) is critically important to success in life.

Humility is the hardest thing to learn, wouldn't you agree? LOL!

agreed! Gettin the humidity right for my heralds os very hard.

Google humility.... NOT humidity. Two totally different terms.

That is hard too. I had a meeting with all me teachers today!
This is better than TV. :roflmao:
But seriously, I have one question (and some of you have heard it before) : Who's on first?

Ok, all you guys who are posting childish threads where you are now poking fun at Snakemaster, you need to really stop, were not here to belittle. Having said that, Snakemaster, NO other forum said it was ok to feed your rat snake that much in one week, it's ubsurd. Snake could have died, yadda, yadda, yadda, 300 people said it before me.

You are wrong. Get over that fact, and move forward. Don't pull any stunt's like that again or you won't be welcome here. I'm not trying o be harsh on ya kid but your stubborn and your hard-headed. Admit your mistake and we can all move forward.
