REALLY like the paintings the best...that rough, painterly look is very appealing. Were they done in adcrylics? (I'm asking because of the glare...I have that problem when I scan in my acrylics. =( ) LOVE the rough, gritty look on the sketchbooks...makes it far more interesting ( I wish I'd have thought of that during my portfolio)!

if you mean the paintings of the girl in the red dress. They were done in acrylics but there is a lot of layers on there and i put a lot of the backround paint on with scrumpled up newspaper and just spread it around like that. It ceated a very different look to what it would have done using a paint brush!
Also they wer not done on canvas, but on pretty thick white paper, so it kind of crumpled a bit but it all added to the effect that i was looking for!

oh ye, i studied at Wigan and Leigh college and then i went to Preston uni (UCLAN) to do my animation course!

I dug out a few of my old sketch books and took a few more pics for you guys! This stuff is all really rough as it is just sketch book work and some of this is from uni as well so it will be a bit more character based.

(actually, most of this is character work rather than the big fine art pieces that i showed you guys before)

people used to think i was a bit twisted or something because i used to use so much charcoal and all my work was really dark most of the time! haha

it will be interesting in september when i start my teacher training course learning how to 'teach' art and not do it!

So twisted =bad ? Not hardly they are great!
 
I also really like the two paintings with the red dress. You wouldn't happen to have prints? I'd like to frame those and have them with our Goth art collection.
 
Actually, I thought the last face was really cool!

The main thing that comes to mind in many of your pieces is that you seem to be able to convey a lot of emotion with relatively little detail. I often like to see a lot of extremely detailed pen and ink in drawings, but I think it is amazing how much you are able to show with the more "generalized" tones of charcoal.

I think we must have a lot of talented people on this forum. I remember seeing a number of artists show their stuff here over the years, and whether it is the style I prefer or not, I am always surprised to see "normal people" (not full time, professional artists) who can do this quality of work.

thank you Kathy, I am really pleased that you like some of my work! its crazy to think that i did this stuff 3 years ago! time goes so fast! i really want to show you guys some of the animation work that i did in uni but its really hard to get them uploaded onto the internet because the files are so big!

thank you! I dont have any prints im afraid but i could maybe get some good photo copys done of them or something like that??

wow, im so flattered that you just asked me that! Im really chuffed with the responce that my work has gotten from you guys!

About your question, hmm.....as tempting as it is i dont think that i could let any of the work from my port folio go. The stuff in my port folio means a lot to me as i really enjoyed college and i will also need them to show at any future job interviews and such.

I could look into getting some copys of them done for you if you would like?
I dont know how good the copys would be though because i can't think of any other way to get them copied besides photo copying them?

Maybe i could look into doing some origional piece's for you or something like that??
it would be good for me to work on some fresh stuff.
