I will be doing a presentation on saturday and I wanted to know if it would be ok if I didn't use any bedding. I am thinking about using some felt (inspired by the famous blue bowls) which would be blue. would it hurt the snake? I could also put the felt on the bottom but not in with the snake, but we come back to the same question? is it ok to have her on bare glass? please reply by thursday I need this info quick!!!
 
We do presentations and hands on demos with the herp society here and I don't think it would be an issue. I like tha idea of using blue felt and may have to try it next time.
 
what will you do if the snake gets tired and wants to take a nap?
i know that i freak out everytime i am in a room without a bed.

i might have shortened bedding to bed
and gotten a little off topic while talking about my bed
but its still in the spirit of the topic
bottom line is that if i can go part of the day w/out my bed then prolly a snake can go part of day with no bedding - but i could be wrong

I won't pretend to know too much about snakes, but I think the humane thing to do is to make it as comfortable as possible and comfort for a snake is bedding and a place to hide.
Maybe transfer those needs to a container that is easier to carry than a glass tank and bring the glass that people can view her through for just a portion of the presentation.
Proper husbandry can be a part of the presentation too.
If you are going to allow anyone to handle her, you might also want to make the rest of the presentation less stressful - allowing her to hide.
I do like the idea of blue felt - it will show off her colors. I just think that time should be limited. Again, I don't know how much time you were planning for or how far you are traveling. Just a few thoughts.
 
i just did the presentation. She was in the cage without any substrate for about 10 minutes. the rest of the time she was in my hands. I held her the whole presentation! Everything went good and hopefully I will be going to state fair with it.
 
We use the repti-carpet for our displays when I dont want them to bury in the bedding. I am sure that felt would be ok as well. Or you could use colored napkins or paper towels just as easy. (makes of easy clean up if they poop while at an exhibit/display)

Good luck with your venture, great idea. I do them here in Maine as well.

Personally we do a few here. I prefer not to keep my animals in open cages on display. We typically keep them in bags until we need them. I lowers the stress. I also have a few animals to choose from in my collection of various species and use the best ones that we trust at events and we know will stay calm around people.

There a few snakes I own that do not do well as a show animals. They just stress out to much and just do not do well.
