Healthy Growth Rate ?

My 2 corns look very healthy and they are doing fine. However, since I have no data to compare their growth rate I'd like to know what the average growth rate for corn snakes is. Here the data of my worms :

0.1 Classic, received in Dec. 2008, weight 23 g

Now 85 g, mice consumed in weight over that period approx. 180 g

1.0 Anery Zig Zag, received in Jan. 2009, weight 20 g

Now 75 g, mice consumed in weight over that period approx. 170 g

That means about 30 % of the food intake was transformed into body mass. Is that a healthy growth rate or should I feed more or rather less ( I am following the Munson Plan...) ?

It sounds like you've proved out what I've always heard; a snake's weight will increase by roughly one third the weight of the prey it was fed!

I've actually been wondering the same thing too. This is my first snake and I've been following the Munson plan as well, here are my results for my male corn:

Started Jan 27th weight 22g
Last weight Aug 9th 102g
total quantity consumed 232 g
(5 sheds)

22+(232x.33)=91.6
so I'm just over that 1/3 amount gain

I was wondering whether my snakes put on too much weight too fast because a lot of fat and growing too fast can cause problems. Looking at your data I probably should not worry ;-). But then I guess all snakes are a bit different in how fast they grow. As I live in the tropics this could also be a factor.

Cheers

Does anyone with multiple snakes know if males and females put on weight at different rates?

I also rarely feed more than 1X his thickness. I did have about 2 months where I doubled fuzzies because I wanted to go through them before purchasing hoppers, but I stayed within the total recommended grams.

I've only got a small collection (16 at the moment) but in that small sample there's no relationship to weight gain and gender. They're all individuals, and some of the males grow faster than others, as do some of the females.

If you're only feeding 1X the snake's body thickness, you could certainly consider moving up in prey size. The rule of thumb is that if the "feeding bump" isn't clearly and easily visible 24 hours after feeding, the prey is too small.
