Indentification?! I think know what it is though...

well brew... I'm going back to where we caught him... We saw 5 or 6. If i get a female and breed them, would you want one?
(Im going to there tomorrow)

Lol no thanks, not now atleast. I have more than I can deal with for now lol. Plus it'll be awhile before your little guy can breed. Thanks though!

Why not use some aspen for bedding? Pine isn't the best and you can get literal bales of aspen cheap at shows or local farm supply stores.

I checked around, Pine was the cheapest.
It was 5.99 when aspen was 9.99... I looked at a walmart, pet stores, even stores in the country side... It was all more expensive than pine.

@ Brew, Ok that's fine.

I'd avoid the pine too because the fumes aren't good for them. if you don;t want to use aspen cypress mulch and coconut fiber works great also!

Check out reptile shows like I said 15-20 bucks gets you a good 20 pounds of aspen or more:)

Agree, last April I got a 40pound bag for $10! And I still have more than half of it. And thats amazing considering I have 11 snakes, rats, and my mom's hampster!

I am not going to be a brat here but Retarted Geese, you really need to read this site linked below:

http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/reptiles/snakes/tabid/11848/Default.aspx

You might have the Lake Erie Water Snake from what I have read and seen of them from several different picture sources.

You are breaking the law young man! Do you have the correct paperwork from your state to take that animal out of the wild? To house it in your home? I tried to give you this advise in one of your other posts, of which, you wont reply to.

You are not helping the herpers all over the USA by what you are doing. Your "I dont care, I can do what I want" attitude is not very becoming of any herper I know! There are committees all over this country trying to outlaw reptiles pretty much completely! Ever heard of HR669? How about how Florida is dealing with Burmese Pythons?

You could be doing so much good if you only took the time to educate yourself like many of us have advised you.

Good luck, I hope you dont get fined for what you are doing. If you and your parents cant afford a steak, how are you going to afford the fine if you get fined for taking that animal out of wild and holding in capitivity for 2months???

Just putting it out there. Sorry for acting like a parent and a concerned herp breeder/hobbyist.

Forget that, I am not sorry. It is my job to help you learn the right things from the start. Please, read, learn, and do what is right!

Thank you

I concur PJ..

It really is not right. All the little things add up.
Knowledge is Power.
..........................what are you doing?

It's also becoming clear through many of your posts that it seems you catch these WC snakes without then looking up the care for them. Ohio is VERY strict on WC anything! My Eastern Milk, though not WC, will probably require me to have a license to own him simply because he is a native species. Seriously, read up on snakes and their care. It's not boring to read I promise you and you'd be amazed at the fascinating things you learn as well as learning things that may make you reconsider owning some snake species.

i vote that if this keeps going on we all just calm down and not reply. if we dont support it we should let the post go all the way to the junkyard and not keep getting bumped back up. its not that were jerks, but we have all said pretty much so far that here we like to be very professional in our animal keeping. and have suggested stuff other than whats going on. if he doesnt want our advice, we should just stop giving it. im almost 100% certain its not a lake erie water snake as it is usually in the put in bay islands or something i forget exactly where, but its usually not on the inland coasts or anything especially not down near canton. good day to all, and i repd pj up also cause he put it in a more here, its easier to read at a 1st grade level if you dont wanna take anyone elses advice before.

Geese, you need to stop putting your wallet ahead of your snake. I've skimmed some of your threads, and whenever someone gives you a piece of advice (whether it be "buy from a breeder" or "don't use pine"), you whine about how you can't afford it. If you can't afford to buy aspen instead of pine, don't get a snake. If you "have" to catch a wild snake because you "can't" afford a $5 baby corn snake, don't get a snake.

Pets cost money.. Even if they are low-maintenance, snakes are no different. The initial set-up for a snake can be very expensive if you do things right, and maintenance costs (food, bedding) are no better.

Basically, save your money.. It sounds like you need to. If, in a few years when your financial situation is better, you still want a pet snake, go for it. Just, please, make sure you're ready to put the animal before yourself. If you look around, just about everyone here would skip a meal to feed their pets, or improve their caging. It doesn't sound like you're to that point yet, and, IMO, no one should be a pet owner until they are.

Just a thought:
If you can't afford the aspen, or any other recommendations, how would you ever afford a vet bill if it got sick?
I owe you a rep for that Robbie
There's enough evidence about the phenols from pine that it's not recommended as a safe substrate for snakes. In fact it's also not recommended for any small animals now, mice, rats etc. Just because it's cheap and widely available doesn't mean it's ok to use.
if you can't afford the substrate maybe you should let the snake go?
