Interracial couple denied marriage license

I read that before I came on here this morning!! I couldn't believe it! Who is he to decide who can and can not get married! GEESH. I thought our country had come alot further then that. To think this isn't the first couple he's done this to. I am just shaking my head here, am in total disbelief.

The worst part is that this guy's bigotry is so deeply ingrained and natural to him that he honestly believes he is doing the world a favor, protecting us from the "evils" of interracial marriage.

I mean...how ignorant do you have to be to not only deny the marriage license, but to honestly and truly believe that you are justified...even a hero for doing it.

Disgusting.

TBH.... This is a good thing and it's good that it has come about.....
Why you ask..
Because racism is still about, yet lots of people bury their heads and pretend that it no longer exists.....
Well it does and it's making the news....
Try and ignore that if you can....
America may be the land of the free, but not if your an ethnic/homosexual it seems....
Excellent point, and I agree!

There is nothing right about what this guy thinks, but at least he came right out and said it. There are many, many people who still have inner prejudice against the very same thing, but they'll never be publicly targeted by the media simply because they do so from behind closed doors. No one was physically hurt by this act of racism, and it causes the discussion to at least be talked about again rather than be left under the rug, so I also feel that it is a good thing that this came out.

About 45 miles from here

LOL.....it's just across the interstate from where I live, and I am there a couple times a week (including driving threw it daily). Hammond isn't a bad area at all. Nowhere has zero bad apples living there.

IN TangipaHOa parish

There is a LOT of good things about "Tangi" parish to make up for her. Is there something wrong with a women being easy (and really, really weird....lol) just because it isn't "normal" to the larger segments of society? ;) :dancer:

Besides, Kentwood is a BEAUTIFUL place.

This actually creates all kinds of legal headaches for us. If you don't live in a state that will recognize the license (most of us don't), then it doesn't do you any good. And in terms of filing taxes and other monetary legalities, it can potentially do you harm.

Oh, I know. I totally agree that gay marriage should be legal in every state. I clapped and cheered when or legislature passed the law.

That's always an option. For some reason, the North East seems to be more accepting than other areas of the country. (For the most part)

That's because we're full of liberal egghead communists, don'tcha know! (Joking, I'm not making fun of liberals, I happen to be one) Also, we have maple syrup!

Oh, and not to nitpick, but you CAN be a separatist without being a racist. The one does not dictate the other, although you CAN be a racist and not be a separatist and vice versa. I'm not saying one or the other is a good trait in minor society, but at least hate the guy for the right reasons.....lol. If you are going to accuse someone of something, at least accuse that person of the right term.

So by seperatist, you mean "a person who does not believe in interracial marriages"? Or a sexual union that produces children of mixed races?

Actually, legal or illegal is irrelevant. The .gov should have a say it it by making it legal OR illegal. I don't believe they have a right to regulate marriage (i.e., tell you that you can or can not marry anyone) in a positive or a negative manner. That's not part of their duties in a country designed to be free. We need a "Stay the hell out of my life!" political party so people CAN marry who they want because that is their right - not because the government "gives them permission to do so." Assuming they can "allow it" also assumes that they can take that privilege away.

The laws passed should not say "same sex marriages are ok" - it should say, "we have no right to regulate who marries who - period!"

That's my belief.

Not what I mean...........I only refer to the definitions of the words that most people seem to ignore for convenience or through ignorance. I just wish people would use the words correctly instead of twisting the definitions around incorrectly.

That's all. Denotations NOT connotations or personal "meanings."

Hmm... I am still confused. What is your definition of a seperatist?

KJ, I was wondering how long it would take you to get here. LOL.
I have been known to exaggerate to be humorous. And folks, Tangipahoa Parish is indeed a beautiful place,...and...the Spears family is by no means exemplary of the populace of that area. Nor is this idiot.

And Chris is right, this JOTP really thinks he is administering his own special superior esoteric service to mankind. A major pet peeve of mine.

Hold on, now... I agree that this is a HORRIBLE thing... BUT, Racism/sexism/homophobia are NOT limited to the United States.

I have Macedonian friends who are the brunt of racism in Europe. They've told me tales of how Macedonians are treated like second class citizens in Greece, Turkey, and even Italy.

Don't forget that there actual "extermination" and "purification" existed just a VERY short time ago in Europe. Shall we say, "Slobodan Milosevic"? That's just recent history. So, Michael and Mike, be careful to not only denigrate the US in your posts. This kind of stuff is everywhere... NOT RIGHT, but still everywhere.

Excellent KJ, right on the head. (please don't tell anyone I agreed with KJ)

I don't think that was the point, nor was it said that this was limited to the U.S. I think it was just to reflect on our own downfalls, that we are not necessarily the land of the free that we would like to be, so long as any group of people are denied any form of equal rights.

As for the separatist/racist debate...??? I see no difference, and it is in no way ignorant to compare the two. How is it not racist to deny interracial marriage?
This is the problem, and I believe the point Snakewispera was trying to make. We act like racism is limited to cross burning, lynching, derogatory words, hate crimes, etc... And seeing the majority can't see past these bold forms of racism, and they have never witnessed the extremity of racism, then they conclude that it doesn't even exist... That's all BS. It's like people need to see a Rodney King video to understand racial profiling and police brutality. Why do we let it get to that? It shouldn't take violence and aggressive language to see what's going on. It should be obvious by now, and if people are too comfortable ignoring the signs, then they'll be left in the dust when history has it's way with them.
Let's stop giving people easy outs for being fools, and start building clearer expectations. This man is racist, plain and simple. If you think any less of interracial relationships, you're a racist. If you think any less of same sex relationships, you're homophobic. I have no problem calling it like it is, and I'm sure as heck not going to plant roses around a picket fence for these people, they need to be called out for their outdated and primitive ideology.
