Male Anery Motley: What to pair?

Teddy Roosevelt

What could I pair with my anery motley for some interesting morphs? I'm fond of stripes and caramels/snows, but would I just get normals if I bred one to my Boo? I don't know if he's het for anything, and I'm not looking for THE NEXT NEW AMAZING MORPH or anything that'll fetch a good price, this is for wayyy in the future anyways.

Well, pairing him with something motley or stripe will give you motley offspring, and anery or snow will give you anery offspring and test for het amel. Therefore, an anery motley or a snow motley (or stripe) would be my first choice if you wanted something other than normals as offspring. If you want to add the caramel gene, a butter stripe or motley would still test him for het amel and on the off chance he isn't, you'll still have motley offspring with some interesting hets and the potential of a wonderful variety in the F2 generation.

Who would you reccommend to buy from? I've been thinking about Don Soderburg due to his prices and his great rep. Rich Z and Kathy Love are a bit steep for me. Of course there's always my local breeder who's the cheapest of all, but I don't know what she'll be breeding in later years.

Well, Rich is retiring. Kathy and Don are both terrific and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from either one. There are also a myriad of excellent breeders on this site. It just all depends on what you want, who has what you want when you want it, and how much you are willing to spend on it, including shipping.

But as mentioned here and your other thread, you need to get a clear and accurately colored photo posted so that we can verify exactly what morph you have. I played around with the color on one of your photos, and I simply couldn't make your snake look like an anery unless I used grayscale.

This is a picture of Becky's Anery het lava amel female.

Is almost exactly what my anery hatchling looks like, brownish head and all.

Until you can provide a better photograph of your snake, I'll refrain from making any more comments.

Kind of agree with Susan here. I have a Ghost that looks like the above photo. I thought he was Anery until he breed out Hypos for me(and a lot of them). If the breeder is sure it is an Anery then so be it. Breed it like an Anery, but if things start going all haywire and your not getting what you want, then rethink the genetic background.

And if I recall he's only het motley, such that if you breed him to something that's motley or stripe, you'll only get 50% motley pattern regardless of color morph.

I just got done reading your picture thread. It looks like you came to the conclusion that he is a Normal... And thought that one parent might be Charcoal. Now THAT would be fun. You could pair him with a Blizzard or a Charcoal to test the Charcoal theory, and, if it proves out, go on to pair him with a Snow het Charcoal or a Blizzard het Anery... I've heard it's nigh impossible to tell Anery and Charcoal hatchlings apart, but varied clutches are always fun... =)
