Thanks for looking!

As you may know we don't have our snake yet, but I have been doing everything I can to make sure my daughter isn't squeamish about the feeding aspect of having a corn snake. We have looked at pictures and watched some eating you tube videos, and the like. I showed her the close up pic which is really cool btw, and not a single bit a squeamishness to be found from her. She thinks it is really cool "WOW, do they have more pics like that?" Followed up with, "When I get a snake can we take pictures like that and make it my background?"

Anyways awesome pics!

Thanks! And that's awesome that she's not even phased by it! When I got my first snakes, no one had even told me about f/t, so the hardest part for me to get past was the squeaking pinkies. At least you don't have that to deal with! (Actually, to be completely honest, I exclusively live up until January of this year... :sidestep: )

Her and I have also talked a lot about what would you say or think if one of your friends didn't like that your snake eats mice? What if one of your friends was upset or angry about it? She said to me "Well I would have to tell them that it is nature, and that it would be even meaner not to let my snake eat because then the snake would be very mad at me." We just really want to make sure that she is prepared for everything that having a snake entails. She thinks it is fascinating that they can open their mouths so widely and swallow without chewing.

Those look nice Robbie. Love the close ups

Thanks!

It's official. Your daughter is awesome!
If she wants, until you get a snake of your own, you can use the closeup picture from here as a background for her! Just right click the picture and select "Set as Desktop Background", or something like that. :D

Stop posting pictures of your beautiful Caramel Aztec boy! It's cruel! xD

Jk, nice pictures! I really like the close-up shot.

I really wish I could take credit for her being awesome, but really it is all her. Last year when we were camping she discovered some sort of skink or something similar battling with a grasshopper. She sat sooo still (so she didn't disturb them) for probably at least 30-40 minutes watching the events unfold while they battled. The grasshopper eventually lost. She was sooo excited to have been able to see something like that and she told everyone she saw about it for weeks afterwards, including her pediatrician, and the clerk from the grocery store, and all of her friends from play group. She was disappointed though that not everyone thought it was cool and that some people thought it was gross or that she was mean for not rescuing the grasshopper. But she still is not deterred now she keeps a nature journal so she can draw pictures and write about all of the things she sees in nature. I am going to set it as her background, thanks for the offer.

Ah, so now I've figured out the secret of how to torture reptile people! :dgrin:

That really is very cool! I never had a nature journal, but I was always in my backyard catching corns, black racers, and anything else that moved and grabbed my attention. Just make sure she knows how to tell the difference between a harmless and venomous snake!

I think that is great advice, even for people/kids who are not into nature or snakes. Not only does the girls know the rule of our yard which is not to touch without a grown up, we have actually worked with both of the girls teaching them which snakes in our area are venomous. The oldest can identify them the younger one is still working on it. Cottonmouths, Diamondbacks, Coral Snakes and Pygmy rattlers are what live around here. 3 of the 4 I can guarantee live near our house/yard (we are on 10 acres in a rural area, near a bunch of wilderness areas, and about 7 of our acres are wooded). We have not ever seen a Coral snake in the wild (only at the zoo) but from what I hear they are shy. I know that there are also copperheads in N fl and Timber rattlesnakes in N FL as well, but we have not covered them in any sort of detail yet, but she has seen them at the zoo.

I love that tight-cropped feeding picture. (I know not everyone likes 'em, but my favourite pictures of my own snakes are mainly the abstract feeding coil ones!)
