Newbie with her first snake

Hello all,
I've been snooping about these boards since I got my little charcoal from a reptile show on Sunday.

I had been keeping rats for about 3.5 years, but after all of my original colony died, I decided I wasn't cut out for keeping pets with such short lifespans. Afterward, a friend of mine with a kingsnake put the idea of getting a snake in my head. After reading up on them and holding her snake some, I decided a snake might be my speed.

I picked up Isis, my charcoal corn, at a reptile show. I wanted a miami phase, but there was none to be had. I opted for a good snake now instead of the perfect snake who knows when. But I'm keeping my eye out for that perfect gray and crimson miami. I'll be posting pics of Isis over in the gallery here shortly.

As for me, I'm 31, in IT project management, and as happily married as the state of Kentucky will let me be. I play video games, I bike, go to the gym, and read. I've had cats, dogs, rats, mice, hamsters and a lizard. Actually, we still have a cat and a lizard.

So, hello All. Pleasure to meet you. :)

Hi there and Welcome to the forum :D happy to have you and Isis. There are plenty of amazing breeders on this forum that I'm sure will have a Miami just perfect for you, keep your eye out, but beware corns snakes are ADDICTING!!

Thanks. And I can definitely see how they could be addicting. I've already had to promise that I'll stop at 2. So there is room for that perfect Miami if the opportunity presents itself. :)

Ha I started with two at Christmas time this past year now I'm up to 11 lol My Boyfriend tells me that 15 is enough so I have to pick and choose the last 4 carefully ;)

Hello and welcome to the forum!
I keep rats as pets and even though their short lifespans hurt, they do seem to cram alot of love and joy into the short time they have. I also have 4 elderly rosy boas, a blotched kingsnake and 30 corns....

If you want the perfect Miami, check out Carol Huddleston's page, Low Belly Reptiles. Carol is *the* queen of the miami phase and hers are the best in the country (no, I am not kidding!).

Pics are up in the gallery now. Will try to get a couple of better pics later.

Yeah, Rats are absolutely amazing little creatures. I had no idea they could be so loving when I got my first one. Who knows, I may change my mind and start keeping them again.

Thanks for the tip on Low Belly. I'll check them out.

Ooh! She raises exactly the snake I'm after. Thanks for the tip! I may have that perfect snake sooner than I thought. Not that you aren't adorable Isis. :D

Carol definately produces the best miami's anywhere (which is why I have a whole bunch from her myself!). I should have offspring this year as well from Huddleston line Miami's. But I believe Carol has more pairings of them than I do.

Yep I have two of Carol's Miami's myself and honestly would not have gotten them from anywhere else.

Anyway welcome, it's nice to have you here

Welcome to the forum! You'll want to get a copy of Kathy Love's book. It's a great reference, and belongs on the shelf of every corn keeper. It's available from Amazon and other places, but you can get it directly from Kathy at www.cornutopia.com.

I have to warn you, it's going to be REALLY hard to have only two!
