Hi Stephanie, (Or anyone else using this product)

I saw in a different thread that you use the Jungle Habitats cages. In your stack, what size cage are you using, the 300 or 400? Are they the 12" high cages? Do you feel that the size you use is sufficient for an adult corn/king/milk?

And how are they ventilated? Did you have to put vents in (from the company, and what size, and how many per cage) and they must be covered to prevent escapes, right? Or are the walls themselves ventilated by holes, screen?? Are the backs solid?

And how do you heat, specifically, and did you install that yourself or was it installed at the factory?

Thanks a lot,

Nanci

Got your PM, and you're right...I wouldn't have seen this. :)

The cage stack I had shown here was for my boas, they are 4' x 2' x 1'. That would be the following picture...

junglehabitats_cages.jpg

In my opinion, that is way to large for a cornsnake. But, Alan does have smaller cages that would be perfect for a small colubrid. The T-200's or the T-300's would be better suited for what you want.

The cages do not need additional venting on them because there is a 1/8" space around the acrylic doors (if you go with drop down) which provides plenty of ventilation. I have no experience with the sliding glass doors, but if you email Alan, I'm sure he'd be happy to answer any questions regarding them.

I use a single halogen light fixture (that I installed) per 4' of space in the cages that I have. The halogens provide light and heat, so an additional heat source is unneccessary (and JP does install these if you would like them to do it). JP can also install flourscent fixtures and radient heat panels if you so choose.

The cages that I am getting for my cornsnakes are the T-421 Quad cage:

MVC-831F.JPG

It's the same size as my boa cages, but has 4 sections split into it providing living space of 12x12x24 for each snake. These come with Halogens already installed.

Feel free to ask anymore questions. :)

I would divide it and keep two snakes in it!! I was plotting last night, and I have a 40g on a really cool coffee table thing in my kitchen, and I could put the 40g on top of the 321- it would fit exactly! The 321 divided is still larger than a 20L.

I don't think I would like to use the light for the heat source, because it would keep the pigeon awake, and when Milly is awake, he coos constantly. Can you use UTH with it- I saw he had those heat mats but don't know how they are installed, and I don't know _anything_ about Flexwatt.

Do you _like_ the acryllic drop down doors? Or would you rather have sliding?

If you have the lights off (which you probably don't since you need them for heat) can you see in there? Is it hard to reach 24" back to the back?

Thanks!

Nanci

The T-300's & T-400's have the option of installing a removable divider. Two of my boa cages have a divider because their are baby boas in them right now that don't need a ton of space.

Here is a pic from inside the cage of the divider:

Here is a pic of the gap around the door for venilation:

The halogens I use for daytime heat are on a 12 hour on/off shedule. Because everything is located in my reptile room that stays a comfortable night time drop for my reptiles, I do not use an additional heat source.

I know that the radient heat panels JP can install for you inside the cage, but I'm not sure if the Ultratherm heat pads are for inside the cage. The plastic of these cages is pretty thick, and I have never tried putting a heat source underneath the cages to heat. That's something you will have to ask Alan.

As for sliding vs. drop down doors. I like drop down. I don't think you can have the divider installed if you use slideing (don't quote me on that).

The 24" depth has not proven a problem with cleaning or trying to get animals out of there cages for me. Because my cages are black, when the lights are off, you can't really see much in the cage. I purchased them w/o lights because I was indecisive of what I wanted to do. I am very happy with how the cages look with lights installed now.

I have a few questions for you.

How much did the unit you have pictured cost you after shipping?

What temperature do the halogen lights keep your units at, of course I would have to ask then what temperature you keep your snake room at?

Are the lights protected or is it possible for the snakes to burn themselves by wrapping around or touching the lights?

Is the unit just stackable so it's easy to drag up stairs and around corners?

What is the exact model you have shown? :)

Thanks for the time!! :)

Rebecca

(I e-mailed Alan with questions about the heat.)

I wonder what they look like in white.

Nanci

Oh and thanks for taking those pics for me! Could a small snake squeeze through the ventilation crack around the door?

Nanci

I got the stack of five T-421's and a base (not pictured) for $750 + shipping when he was running a sale. Shipping (freight pick up at the shipping company) was somewhere around $120.

The gap around the doors would allow a hatchling cornsnake to get out.

I attached a pic of the halogen. I use two in my 4' cages. Directly underneath the light w/o a dimmer the temperature is 98.5 degrees. Four inches away from the light the temperature is 82.5 degrees. At the front of the cage the temperature is 75.5 degrees (room temperature is 72 degrees). I do not use a dimmer with my boas (they like the heat), but I have hooked one up to the halogens as a test for my cornsnakes, and it's perfect. My lights are installed in the back, so the heat gradient is back to front obviously.

I do not believe it's possible for a snake to wrap themselves around the light. it's round and provides nothing to grip onto.

Ok great!

Was that cost with lights or without? If without, about how much would one expect to pay to add lights?

I think you said you added them later, was it easy to wire up or tricky?

What about the earlier question of if the vivs are just stacked or if they are attached. Would these be easy for me to move up stairs and around corners?

Thanks again! ;)

Rebecca

Oh I forgot to ask. Have you measured the difference of temps in the bottome cage as opposed to the top?

Alan charges $10.95 per light with installation. I purchased a 5 pack of Halogens from Lowes for somewhere around $40. Once you've got one light down, they're pretty simple to install.

Keep in mind the price I paid was a sale price a few months ago.

As I said in post #8, what I have there is a five stack of T-421's. These cages are super light, and I've had no problem moving them by myself when empty. JP does have complete breeder packages that include lights, heat & thermostat.

Because the Halogens are spot light and the cage plastic is so thick, there is only a three degree difference from bottom to top cage.

Funny thing- I got home today, and- you're not going to believe this- there was a letter from my home insurance company that stated they had made a mistake in rating people, and I had been overcharged, and they were so sorry, and they would try to do better in the future- and here's a check (that would cover the cost of that cage I am looking at...)

I need to act responsibly. Grrrr!!!!!!!!! I was looking at the cage in terms of _if_ after replacing my shocks and brakes and putting a very hefty down payment on a shed, (because my very expensive lawnmower is living in a shredded tent right now!) _if_ I had a couple hundred bucks left from my tax return, _maybe_ I could afford the cage.

I'm thinking four of these 24x24x12 high would be pretty versatile. Plus the shipping is free! I'd never need anything bigger than that.

Alan answered my e-mail by suggesting he call me, so I just have to find time for that. I'm way more of an e-mail person...

I also like the white plastic more than the black.

Any thoughts??

I just want to be able to see my snake in the cage. And I don't want it to seem like it's in a box.

Nanci

Hi again Nanci.

Alan's been having a bit of a problem with his PC, so that's probably why he requested in phone conversation over email.

The 24x24x12 size is what size I will be useing with the T-421 Quad stack.

Hello folks

Sorry i had logged in here the other day and as blckkat mentioned I have had some PC issues this week and currently on a backup from my brother while he doctors on mine .

Ok to the cage questions looks like blckkat has pretty much covered most ( she has asked me so many shes like a rep now lol ) In regards to the door gaps if i know ahead of time the cage is made to house smaller snakes in that would have any chances of getting out then I can install a lower valance , this cover the larger gap under where the hinges mount ( they have to have a 3/16 gap to operate thats why its there ) installing the lower valance prevents any small heads from poking out of it and i can reduce the door gaps on the side to about 1/8" and there is no space above, I recommend when doing this to ad vents to the cage because the airflow is reduced by about 5sq " For heating the cages if you are looking to do the 2x2x1 cages i would say as long as your room is 70-75 then a 11x17 ultratherm on each cage would be enough for your snakes needs , with the halogens as blckkat mentioned they do provide heat & light which can be a plus as using a lamp dimmer dims the lights and still offers heat so they can be dialed in and set for daytime heat and even stuck on a timer to go off in the evening and when they cut off the belly heat would come on when the stat picks up temps drops. . Lastly on the 2x2x1 cages they will be going off sale end of January and they will no longer have free shipping included on them , standard shipping on these cages runs around $18-$25 depending on locations . If you still have questions my emails working now i just couldn't get to any on my old HD so theres a few ppl i haven't been able to respond to right now sorry. as for the phone i can much better describe and more detailed uses of heat & lighting and cage choices etc etc and also if you order cages over 4 i can do a freight shipping which at many times can be cheaper depending on cage sizes etc .

Being i was up printing t shirts all night till 6 am and worked all day i may turn in early tonight lol so if i dont reply i will in the morning or when i awaken around midnight lol

WOW!!

Thanks for this... this guys prices are AWESOME.

Stephanie, I came into this a bit late... and I do apologize. But could I see a pic of the full cage stack, set up? If you already have the pics loaded, just redirect me. Thanks so much in advance.

They look awesome, Alan! The only question is- do I stack them on the kitchen counter like they are, or put them side by side under the torts' 40g???
