Well first i should say sorry because this is not about a corn snake, but i didnt know were alse to go, i have been here for a while and decided to join today because i picked up a viper boa after researching it for a while, but there isnt much on them. he is very aggressive, but thats alright, i was wondering more or less if snakes stop eating when then are about to shed because he hasa white line forming down his back, but its not his whole body, is there something wrong?? temps seam to be fine from what i found of them 88-90F, i offered him a fuzzy Last night(he is about a foot long) but he lashed at me and didnt even bother with the fuzzy, any techniques for feeding, i have read they are fussy eaters(also can i freeze a unthawed meal??) and now he is hissing at me, i dont know why,...any advice thanks ahead, also if there is anoth site for forums on boas could someone post the link...thanks again!!

You could move your post down to General Chit Chat- I think we have a couple viper boa owners here. One of my snakes, a king, totally goes off food when he's going blue. Actually, my adult corn does, too. Two others keep feeding, and one doesn't have a choice.

I think posting your question in the other section is your best bet.

I refreeze one time, if the prey has been thawed for 30 minutes or less.

Its more than likely you have landed yourself with a WC little viper - OF COURSE its bound to be bad tempered, even long term captives are nutcases!

One of the most important thing about this species is it NEEDS to feel safe ie small dark damp box. A lass I know who keeps (and successfully bred) two WC specimens uses "moss boxes". Just a little plastic tray or box with piles of moss. This of course keeps up the all important humidity and gives them somewhere secure to burrow and hide, after all they are ground boas and don't have that pointy wee nose for nothing ;) The white line could perhaps be him/her "drying out" if you have not kept the enclosure humid enough. If it looks like lose skin, thats whats happened. Or indeed many it is going into shed and in that case he needs some alone time ;)

IE feeding they ADORE lizards. Why not try scenting with anoles or even trying live? They will take time to feed but patience is the key. Constant offering of food will only make them more stubborn NOT to eat, same with most fussy feeders.

IMO It was unwise to dive straight into this tricky species, but If any of this helps let me know :) I LOVE viper boas, perhaps post a picture of the wee thing?

well he did venture into his water dish last night, and he looked alot better for a while, i will get som moss today, he is in a 13'' by7'' by 5'' plastic reptile box(only because they did want to get him out) he is on bark right now. he has calmed down even though the heat has stayed the same(less noise, ppl walking around i assume) so here is a pic of him any how...the pic

umm i don treally know what else to say, i dont think they sell anole scenting here in canada, norther newbrunswick, i will check though, he did eat a live mouse last week on sunday a week from today, should i have the food moving with tweezes or leave it sit in a dish, i know my gecko took a pinky from tweesers but he knows me now lol...or should i go live foods?

well thats all for now, i got more help here than on the rest of the forums i joined, so thanks alot and i will post in general chit chat also!!

Looks nice and fat to me :) You can't be doing as much wrong as you think you are!

As for bark substrate, thats cool... but remember many people have had major problems with wood mites. The WC specimen will probably already be loaded with parasites/mites/worms etc but don't worry! Thats easily taken care of. I would advise you concentrate on getting the snake fat and secure for now THEN do any necessary treatments (if any).

Personally I would change the substrate to plain newspaper and put a large moist moss box on each end of the tub, as I said before these snakes are rather secretive and the safer they feel, the better they progress in captivity.

It also looks like hes hiding something under that dirty skin, you could be in for a surprise once he sheds! Its always ded exciting to see the colour change they go through after the first shed in captivity. Best of luck with him!
