Animal Plastics/Flexwatt Question (TripleMoonsExotic??)

Does anyone have an Animal Plastics rack with Flexwatt instead of heat cable? Do you have a picture of how it is installed? Do you prefer it to heat cable? Now AP is giving me a choice. I feel like sticking with a known quantity, but since I have to run the thermostat ten degrees higher to account for the cable barely touching the bins, I am wondering if Flexwatt is better. But I want it to be as neatly installed as the cable, or I wouldn't want to switch.

Thanks,

Nanci

Knowing AP quality and workmanship, I'm sure it's installed neatly (though I don't have 1st hand experience). I have three racks of theirs with heat cable, two for corns, and one for the bps. All of them have to run several degrees higher to get good temps inside the tubs. Not a big deal for the corns, but for the bps, the cable has to run pretty hot for the inside temps to get warm, especially since the area of the cable is so small.

If I end up getting more, I'll definitely be getting the flexwatt option. Just my 2¢

Somebody was _just_ talking about an AP rack with Flexwatt in the last week or so, and I can't remember who...

I think it was Stephanie (TME) who was, she posted a hatchling rack that had flexwatt - I remember her mentioning that the heat cable didn't get warm enough for her. Though someone else might have talked about it too and I never saw that one, I'm sure she'll find this thread...

Good, I thought it was her. My bins are safe; they are the 66 qt 1758's which have not been discontinued!! I do plan to buy a fourth rack sooner rather than later, just in case, though. Then I'm done!!!

I'm not sure what sort of picture you're looking for, but this is what it looks like. There's sort of a "damn" routered out to stick the heat tape into.

This is what the cable looks like, in case anyone was wondering: (The slot at the top is for the thermostat probe, each shelf has one).

Where do you place your thermostats on the heat tape???

What type of tape do you use to tape the heat tape down???

Are you sure? I found the new 66qt latchable bins model 1757 at Target today and no 1758s in sight or a place for them on the shelf.

I agree with Khaman... I work at Target and all of the new sterilite we are getting in look like the latchable type... If you are talking about the same bins I'm thinking about they look almost the same as the old ones, except they are latchable... Maybe they will still fit...

I've got the same rack, and didn't have any trouble finding the bins at Target. Bought them 3-4 months ago. Maybe I should buy up all they have now. I have enough for both racks (10) plus two extras..

I also have the cable installed and also have to run it a bit higher to keep temps up...

Tom, the tub issue has only been the past few weeks because the new line was just released.

YIKES! I'd better get to my Target pronto, in hopes that there's some of the old ones left. Thanks for the heads up. It sure would suck to have one break and you can't get a replacement.
