Onto Seriousness... Being a new corn owner, i worry about handling scruffy when he's just ate his pinky. So i like some on here feed in his viv, i take the necessary precatuions as much as i willingly can, but monday he out smarted me.

I get home from work, get a pinky ready and all that fun stuff, remove all his hides, and wake his butt up from underneath his water bowl. I usually leave 1 hide for him (his rock) cause i get everything out like 5 mins before putting the pinky in. I put a newspaper in the tank covering up my substrate, atleast 75% of the tank is covered in paper. I remove his last hide, and he does his normal routine, explore, surf the glass, check out his thermometer, then finally onto the pinky.

Currently his body is 40% on substrate and 60% on the newspaper, but for some god awful reason he grabs the pinky and does a little curl up trick. Dragging the pinky into the substrate.. All i can do is watch him scarf it down, but i did manage to pull off some big pieces off the substrate, but he did take down a few pieces with him. I called the vet and they said to monitor his condition, if he gets depressed or anything like that let them know and they'll xray.

3 nights and 2 days later, he's still doing good.. Hiding under his water bowl, and exploring at night, hope he doesn't have any problems.

Sorry, just wanted to get this out there, think next monday it's seperate feeding tub time.

Yeah... this has happened to me several times when I've tried to feed as you did... So I don't do that any more. LOL. None of mine had any issues with eating a few tiny bits of substrate (these guys are my bigger corns now).

Hope your little one doesn't have any issues!!! Good luck!

Thanks for the support. I'll keep everyone posted.

You don't really have to handle them at all after feeding. I just put the feeding bin back in the viv and gently slide them out. Your way just seems like a lot of extra work for nothing. :shrugs:

A little bedding probably shouldn't hurt him but definitely keep an eye on it.

Hope that everything will be o.k.
I have a small kritter keeper just for feeding because of that very reason. After it eats(half hour or so) I take the lid off of the K.K. and kinda nudge him out and into the tank.(I let him/her go out on there own I didn't just pour him out into the tank)It worked really well for me.
That may work for you if you don't want to handle after a feed.

I hope all goes well with you little one. If you worry about handling after feeding heres a simple solution. Put the pinkie in a glad sandwich container, add the snake and lid. Becareful not to get the tail in the lid. Sit the container inside the snakes home. When it's done eating, just open the lid and let him come out on his own. Problem of worry and bedding consumption solved. :) Good luck with you little one!

We actually went out and bought a big supply of the tupperware lids and stuff. So monday should be exciting for both of us, but i'm assuming all should go well.

We feed both of my snakes in a seperate container, always have. No problems there. As others have said, I just tilt the container and let them move out on their own.

I have learned that while they're feeding is a GREAT time to clean the cage. :D

I hope your little guy continues to do well. Please let us know how his feeding goes.
