Hoping for snow(s) in south Mississippi!

Caryl

I'm delighted to announce that the forecast calls for baby snows along the Mississippi Gulf coast! Boz and Liliana successfully bred Thursday night. This will be my first clutch. Boz is the snow stripe motley in my avatar. He's got lots of yellow, peach, coral and pink champagne colors with a dusting of white. He's an '07, so this is his first season. Liliana is a lovely white and gold lady. She produced last year for Kyle Howard (AKA Forked Tung) at Buckeye River Reptiles.

I'm ridiculously excited about the prospect of hatchlings. I know, I know....lots of people have been breeding corns for a long time - even accidentally on occasion. I remain ridiculously excited. :D

It will be a lovely bonus if Liliana turns out to be het for motley or stripe, but I'm going to be happy to get a healthy clutch. I'm posting a couple of photos, and will post more next week. The camera went to college with my son, and he's currently in Flagstaff and Bryce Canyon on a field trip. (Wish I got field trips like that!)

The first photo is Liliana on the arm of my son in the Navy who was home for a visit. (That's his laundry too - oops!) Sorry for the fuzzy picture, but it does show her colors nicely. The next images are of Boz. The one in the sycamore tree was last October. The avatar image was at Christmas. Thanks for looking!

Congrats Caryl !!!!!!!!!!
You're on you way! The sire looks great and of course so does Ms. Liliana, what does she weigh now?
They're going to make some really sweet babies for you.
( I'd look for about 3 more visual hook-ups and then start feeding her everything she'll eat)
Keep us updated.

ps) If you ever lose a snake that pile of clothes would be the first place I'd look...lol

Caryl, I'm so excited for you!!!! Your "kids" are gorgeous...of course I'm partial to Boz...something about the name. ;)

I can't wait to see more and OF COURSE step by step details of the big events. Thanks so much for sharing, and best of luck!!!

Thanks for the compliments! Liliana was in great shape when I got her from you, and didn't lose condition during brumation. She has put on some weight since I got her from you, but I haven't weighed her lately.

And as for that pile of clothes....it's GONE! :p Jeremiah got home from the Navy, and Sterling arrived from college. Sterling dumped his suitcase in the floor and Jeremiah decided to clean out his dresser. Sometime that afternoon Jeremiah discovered Liliana brumating in his closet and just had to take a picture of her. I wasn't thrilled, but no harm seemed to come from it. He only had her out about 5 minutes.

Don't worry, I'll keep you posted about upcoming babies. Thanks again.

Update: Boz & Liliana had a second liason last night. I wasn't feeling well, so when nothing happened within an hour after I put her in his tank I went to bed and left them alone. Apparently the sound of rain falling in the darkness is as romantic as Barry White is purported to be! This morning I found two contented-looking corns and "evidence" on the newspaper. She's back in her own viv, and all is well.

As my partner/son would say "coolio"!!!
I never thought seeing "evidence" of anything would make me smile...

Another hook-up yesterday evening for this pair! That's the third time. I'll put them together once more on Friday.

I have a question, too. The info I've read says to look for prenatal shed about 4-6 weeks after mating. I realize that's a range, but is that after the 1st or the last mating?

I would start looking for blue 4 weeks after the first hook-up assuming it was successful and conception occurred.
That is also ( 4 weeks) the point at which I place a shed/lay box in with the ladies as well, so she is comfortable with it being in there and uses it.
Congrats! eggs soon...

Thanks, Kyle. I have the box waiting in the closet! I was planning to give it to her at the first sign of blue. Soon.....:D

Beautiful pair. There is nothing better than some beautiful snows. I can't wait to see pippies. :)

Thanks, Jen - I can't wait either! Snows have really grown on me. I bought Boz last year from Kathy Love because his genetics would make a good match with some females I had. Snows are so subtly beautiful that he's become a favorite. I was impatient to breed, and was really pleased when Kyle had snows for sale in the fall. Thanks for sharing my excitement!

Thanks for the compliments on the snakes. I'm not at all sure I want that particular prize, but, hey, I'll take what I can get. :sidestep: Hey, does that come with a cash award?

The disaster in the floor was a temporary state of affairs and I did debate about posting it, but it was the only photo I had that showed Liliana's colors. :shrugs: I'm hoping real herp lovers will overlook it.

Thanks again.

Awww, thanks! I'm sure your little fellow will grow up beautiful, too. It's really been fun watching the colors come in and develop. I had no idea how much I was going to like his colors as he grew. I can't wait to see his babies!

And as for that room, well, what can I say? It IS a disaster in the picture. Zut alors!

Yes, Boz was plenty pink as a baby. That's the way snows generally are when they're small. The white develops as they grow, as does the yellow. Peachy or deep pink tones come with time as well. So, even an adult like Liliana who is white and golden-yellow would have been shade of pink as a baby. I'm curious to see if I can distinguish any differences in the babies to (hopefully) come that will give hints of the colors they might develop.

Please post pics of your fellow! You may also want to check out some snow progression threads, just for fun.

Caryl, Congrats on the hook up! I know how excited you are, this is my first season breeding, and my Anery het amel just layed a clutch of 13 eggs(one looks bad though) on Saturday night. I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it, I keep going back to the snake room, and check the temp about twenty times a day, lol, thank goodness for digital thermometers. If you want you can see pictures of the eggs and parents here. Keep us posted.....

Yeah, wyocornsnaker, I totally share your excitement! Congratulations to you, too! Tonight I'm putting my pair together for a final time, and will then be feeding Liliana all she wants to eat. She's a bit pudgy and squishy now; hopefully that means lots of healthy eggs in the near future. I'll try to get some more photos this afternoon, too.
