Crazy Dave
Friend Evelyn wanted a new reptile pet, so she talked me into going to one of those small number of vendors style herp sales in Orlando in October 2008. A couple of years earlier I'd asked her to go to the Daytona Show and get a baby turtle for a raised wheel chair accessible pond life garden at the Conklin Center, a school for blind persons. So she came back with a turtle, and a few other reptiles she didn't know she needed beforehand but that's her story to tell. So we plunked the turtle in the pondette, stood back, admired the completed project- fish, water lilies, marginal plantings, dragon and damsel fly larvae, highly assorted contrast, feeling quite fulfilled to have the project completed. And then an egret ate the turtle.
Live and Learn.
From the ages of 0 to 22, I had at the most 119 snakes and a few giant lizards and an ocassional hatchling Florida native turtle, a wild caught baby green swamp style corn snake being the first to start that collection. After school, all of them went away. Candy Cane Corns were just coming on the scene; you'll have to guess my age. Please be gentle.
So, having done the junk buying scene to resell on a major auction site, I knew to get there at the opening minute, so scope it all out, and enable Ev to get the pick of the crop. Observation when that minute arrived, indicated others were familiar with strategy, too.
I looked at everything and vicariously enjoyed the show through watching other peoples wallets and listening in on a lot of other discussions; one can learn much about reputation of vendors that way too, live and learn. So after a couple hours looning at the zoo, we were on the way out, Ev with a mess of accessories and more slipperies and slitheries. And then it caught my eye, and Ev even offered to pay for part of it, and then said she'd give me a spare tank with hood top and heat and all that was that. So I came home with a little Corn X Honduran Milk hybrid. That Evelyn, she's an Enabler. She kept it at her house at first, so I could warm up the idea of having a snake in the house to other residents.
So in the next 7 months leading up to today when I wrote and posted this mess, I've checked the sale ads for sterilite, sold a lot of treasures online, gotten a gob of stuff online, learned to batch process melamine, I suppose I knew what deep down path I was sending her on to get a turtle, now here's that back in my lap 32 fold.

Because I admit I enjoy OCD, I don't need a never ending 12 step program, but if you were passing out coffee and doughnuts, I'd say "Yes please". OCSCD. Find A Cure. Obsessive Compulsive Snake Collecting Disorder. I bet there's a market for those ribbon stickers: SUV owners suffering from RSA. Ribbon Sticker Addiction. There isn't a ribbon sticker for that one, too. I've probably over-babbled again, it's my nature. Sympathies and prayers to all suffers of CSA. Corn Snake Addiction. Never Find a Cure~
Warm Regards,

Wow...quite the collection..You are definitely not a newbie to the reptile scene..lol..either way..Welcome to the forum!!!! I'm going to be moving to Orlando FL myself possibly sometime within the next 3 months :0)

Wow that is some collection & I enjoyed the story lol.
I too hope to be moving to Florida this year (Daytona area).
Good luck with your clutches that you get this year. :)

I've heard of PCP, but what's a confetti corn?

Welcome, we have an active membership in Florida, going to shows, the serpentarium, Gatorland, whatever, and of course Daytona!! Stuff gets posted in General Chit Chat- things we're trying to get together for.

Welcome aboard....

yes, yes, yes we try to get together a few times a year at shows and Reptile World.
But of course, the new guy buys dinner the first time out.:dunce:

Thank you all for the greetings.

Nanci, there is a pic of the Confetti at the bottom of this page: http://www.pascopaul.com/Cornsnakes/cornsnakes.html
It is a new morph form mentioned in Kathy & Bill Love's newest Corn Snake Book-
Thanks for the mention of 'general chit chat', I'll take a looksee.

Bharmonika, I will work on getting pics together. I suppose I'll need to do some research on the Mexican species and acquire some plants native to their region of the world for background and props before taking such pictures though. Edit the picture before taking the shot. The corn morphs should be easier, since they come from culture, they can have manmade distractions in the picture with them. I'm thinking cultivated varieties (morph) native plants...variegated Duranta, white Tradescantia, etc.

So we're getting together at the Orlando Repticon one day or the other this weekend! Maybe I will have better luck buying pinks...

Oh No Nanci!!! It CAN"T be time for another ReptiCon already!!! Guess I'll have to sell some plasma down at the bank, and that extra kidney on eBay. "Like New". Cash Only. No Returns.
;D

You don't have to buy anything! I've only bought one animal at a Repticon, and that was a toad. I take that back, two toads. And I bought a lizard at Daytona my first year, and a super-special snake the next year. It's fun just to go, and see what you can get other people to buy!! I got Katie to buy a $100 rat last time!! So we're going Saturday.

He's NOT a rat! LMAO!!

You should definately join us, we always have a lot of fun getting together, even if no one buys anything which is rare.
I think Saturday is going to be the day this weekend.

SHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Don't tell Tony, but I'm gonna be looking for a female house snake. ;)

Uh, ain't that sort of, oh, I don't want to have to pass out "Neosporin for Hurt Feelings", ummmm, what's a nice way of saying convoluted?

But I get the drift, I'll point out those cute hairless guinea pigs to Katie, reinforce how cuddly they are, stand back, and enjoy the moment vicariously as it are. Maybe mark up an amel toad with a blue sharpie marker just to drive Nanci bonkers. And just as she reaches for her wallet, I'll snatch it out from under her. Oh won't this be fun! Okay, I wreckin' I'll see yews on Saturday-
Are we getting the tix in advance so we get in early? I suppose yule knead two know what I look like. What should I wear? Something Simple, yet elegant?
;D

Hey! I have that outfit! But my shoes are better. :p
I know I'll be there around 9:30-10.
It does say that you can get the VIP tickets the day of the show, so IF I get there early enough, I'm just gonna go in and start taking all of my pictures and doing my wandering before everyone else gets there. LOL.

I got the vip tix. Then saw something I needed on the classifieds. This afternoon I was at the grocery store, looking at shrimp on sale, looking at the cart full of stuff, and then had a mental flashback of "You don't have to buy anything!", so put half of it back, so I'll have a little pin money for when "Nanci the Enabler" performs her magic in the snakeroom. Ya'll are terrible influences on me, but I'm sure I'll love my new Ramen Noodle diet. What choice do I have?
;D

Dave, you don't have to live on ramen noodles. One Publix chicken meal (roasted chicken, two sides [I suggest red potato salad and macaroni salad] and a pack of rolls costs $10 and will last you FIVE meals!
