Anyone have caramel/butter opals?

Caryl

BrightHope
Okay, I admit it; I'm a total corn snake addict. I had a dream about these amazing hatchlings. They were caramel opals, which I don't remember seeing although I have apparently seen the term butter opal on price lists. If these animals look remotely like I dreamed them, they're amazing.

If you have these, I'd love to see some pictures. I'd also appreciate very much any comments about variations, adult coloration, and anything else you'd like to share.

Thanks!

A caramel opal IS a butter opal.
Opal = Lavender + Amel.
Butter = Caramel + Amel.
Caramel Opal = Caramel + Amel + Lavender.
Butter Opal = Caramel + Amel + Lavender.

Unless you were talking about a Caramel Lavender (not sure if I've seen any of those yet...).

I hope that helps the hunt for your dream snakes!

Yes, Robbie, I realize caramel+amel=butter, amel+lavender=opal. I wasn't clear in my initial post; sorry. I just wanted to be sure to cover all possible names for the critters. Since opal means amel already, do we need to say butter? Gracious, morph names are often mindboggling. And sheesh, ""caramel opal" sounds sticky; "butter opal" just sounds.....icky. I hereby propose "gilded opal" or "golden opal" for these lovely snakes!

Danielle, thanks for the photo. Your new boy is a beauty! Perhaps I'll need to make room for one of these.

Keep the comments coming!

Ya,

Good breeding plans there "ForkedTongue".

No photo's of the "Golden Opal" either I'm afraid.

However, like our friend above there are plans for f2 from:

Wild Type Mot/Stripe hetero Lavender, Amel, Caramel
Amelanistic Mot/Stripe hetero Lavender, Caramel

For me, personally, it's worth pursuing this project more for the Caramel Lavender Stripe ;)

Regards. Lex

Just double checking. :D
Gilded or Golden Opals definitely do sound a LOT better than butter/caramel opals. We'll just have to wait and see what an adult looks like!

That will be a very sweet clutch, no matter what the actual percentages happen to be! I'll cross my fingers for you on that one, too. Identifying and differentiating between some of those is going to be fun.

Indeed! Morph nomenclature is so....squirrelly. "Caramel snow" but "butter opal," not to even touch on the oddities of hybrid names. That's a topic for another thread - several, in fact!

So, does anyone have any other photos to share? Any non-motley examples? I'm sure these animals show as much individual variety as any other morph. Please show off your treasures. I'd really love to see more!

Caramel Opal

I have a 2010 female that I plan on breeding with a Golddust Motley.

stevinator,
is that a proven caramel opal? or suspect? i may have a few of these this year. it's too hard to tell right now (just hatched waiting for a shed or 2) plus i really wont know ''for sure'' till i breed them back. i also had some last year,but lost the clutch! the butters in that clutch though were very purple!! way more puple than some of my lavenders? & may have been golden opals??
i'll be posting in the thread i started last year for this project soon.just want some sheds first.

Yep! Its a definite Opal Caramel.

have any hatchling shot's? & out of curiosity how do you know? & what were the parents? not second guessing you! but do they look more opal or more snow? prolly vary's eh'

here's a shot of my suspect.... caramel opal motley (post-shed).
