ok, i have seen some homemade incubators and some styrofoam ones, which ones work better and what company has the best ones for reptile eggs?

that looks sweet. I was hopeing to find something like a snapple cooler to make one out of. you know those drink coolers that they have in subway's and other restaraunts... though i cannot find any anywhere... and im not exactly sure how to put my search in on craigs list to see if anyone is selling one around here...
 
Outcast how many clutches are you getting ready for? If it 1-3 I would go with a hovabator chicken egg hatcher... 50 bucks and your done.
 
The Hovabators are GREAT, as long as you have a thermometer other than the one they give you with it. If you have a temp gun, it's great because there's small holes you can aim the temp gun through to get accurate temps without opening it up.
 
I plan on investing in a temp gun soon. they have one at the local pet store for 30 dollars. and i was playing around with the one they use the other day. Its pretty cool...
 
Remember: With temp guns, the further you are from the object you are trying to measure, the wider the circle involved being measured.
So it will register the average for that area....
The laser only shows the centre of the circle....
The instructions usually explain distance x area involved..

is the small one on the left an incubator also? oh and do you have any progression pics of them being built? that is exactly what i am wanting. im going to end up using them for snakes and turtles.
 
I borrowed and tried using a Hovabator for my surprise clutch of ball python eggs, and the tub wouldn't fit inside.

I was watching Snakebytes, and BHB just uses shoebox tubs with HatchRite in the room. But then again his entire room is 85*. For just one corn clutch, maybe that would work for you at this time. That would give you more time to get set up with something more elaborate for the other snakes/turtles you plan on. (For me and corns, that room idea would work best for US, as all of our snakes (but 3) are in one small, temp-controlled bedroom, set at 84-85*.

But I too, am looking to build an (igloo) cooler version of incubator for the balls.

I have an old refridgerator, and once working again, will convert IT to an incubator. It was free, and I've been lugging it around the last 3x I've moved :eek:, just so I'd have it to convert.

YES, the one on the left is a home made incubator also.
The snapple fridge incubator is a simple set up. I use 2 large uth heaters on the bottom of the incubator. they are plugged into a Helix Control mounted on the side of the refridge. I also use a small fan ( not pictured) to circulate the air. Even with the incubator filled, those two uth heat pads easily maintains the 82 degrees I use for my colubrid eggs. However they will maintain temps into the 90's also. So A thermostat control is an absolute must.
The smaller incubator is used for python eggs I used heat tape wrapped around 2 dowels at the bottom, also a Helix and two small computer fans.. This incubator has been hatching Ball Python eggs for over 5 years.
 
wow. yeah that would be awesome to build... i just need to keep an eye out for some of those to come available in the future... i would like to try to get one that doesnt work so i dont have to buy a functional one for too much..lol. i am all about building my own stuff. it makes me feel more useful.

got mine off of graigslist for $100.00.
