Hello to All!
I am a teacher and we had a visit from one of the reptile rescue organizations a few months ago. I was smitten by this enchanting animal!
The corn snake that I got to hang out with was an amazing orange/red colour and s/he appeared to have the most beguiling temperament!
Well there recently was an ad on Craig's list for a 2 yr corn with an enclosure (for 100.00!!). I procrastinated too long and of course s/he was sold.
Now I am hooked (and determined) to find the right one for me!

BUT before I do...I want to learn all that I can about these amazing creatures...and this looks like a great place to start...Thanks!

Woo hoo an adict already I love it. Welcome to the site :D everyone here would be happy to answer any questions you have. I would highly recommend looking through the photo gallery section as well as the for sale section. There you will find TONS of pictures of all different color (moph) corns that you might be interested in. If you liked the Orange/Red corn it was probably and Amelanistic if it had no black on it. They are advertised on craigslist frequently, but you should check out some of the breeders on here. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to get :D and we love pictures once you get one.

Welcome! This is the perfect place to discover to all the different morphs. It's also the greatest place to learn about corns. The people here are amazingly patient.

I know there a couple of breeders in BC....Triple-R-Corns is based in B.C. and I know we have at least one more on this forum who sell in B.C. as well.

Good luck choosing just the right morph...although you will find that the perfect morph changes..usually right after you bought the last perfect morph...

I remember now...it's Comoxcorn who is a breeder. His website is islandcorns I believe.

*Thanks K. Rene for the welcome! Oh oh is it so obvious that I have become slightly addicted (and I don't even have the Corn yet!).
The Amelanistic is definitely a fav what are the corns WITH black?
? What does the number represent before the snake name ie 1.0 Lavender?
Many thanks!

That is what I am concerned about Aislin...getting totally hooked on not just one!!! Thanks for breeder info! I have already contacted Rebbecca at Triple R and this weekend I am meeting with Val from the Reptile Rescue Society. She will have an 8 yr old corn for adoption shortly...
What do you think...too old...habits too entrenched??
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I think rescuing an eight year old snake is very commendable, if that is the path you take. Don't forget to show us pictures of your new addition once decided. Have fun.

A corn with black and orange/red would be a normal or classic corn more than likely.
A corn with no red/orange pigment is an Anery.

The numbers in front of the morphs represent how many of each sex.
1.0 would be one male
0.1 would be one female
1.1 would be one male and one female
1.1.1 would be one male, one female, one unknown

Hello & welcome from Idaho! An 8 yr old corn could be fine, they live about 15 yrs on average, but 20 plus is not uncommon either, so it should still have some good years left in it. Might make sure that it is eating frozen/thawed mice, as it might be more difficult to get it switched if it's been eating live for 8 yrs. Good luck in your search!

Hello, fellow teacher! Welcome to the addiction, and congratulations on your rescue!

I teach high school, and have corns in my classroom. It's a great experience for my students. Of course I have many corns at home.....

You need to pick up a copy of "The Comprehensive Owner's Guide" by Kathy Love. You can get it from Kathy's website, www.cornutopia.com. It's a must-read for every keeper.

Again, welcome!

Hello and welcome from another BC-ian! :) I also became "addicted" to corns at a presentation by a local rescue group. I quickly went from tentatively asking if I could hold a beautiful adult snow corn to "I WANT ONE!" in under 5 minutes. :) (I now have 2!)

I also definitely recommend "The Comprehensive Owner's Guide" if you don't already have a copy. :)

I, too, am a relative corn snake noobie who became instantly addicted -- I went from 1 to 3 VERY quickly (a matter of weeks) and expect to go from 3 to 10 this yeare! I also agree that _The Comprehensive Owner's Guide_ is a fantastic book.

In March of 09 I got my first. as of tomorrow night we will have 8 snakes total. 7 corns and 1 jungle corn. I ordered the corn snake manual, the The Comprehensive Owner's Guide and the morph guide from Kathy Love. We'll get them as soon as the 2010 morph guide is out. This is REALLY addicting. Like I needed more habbits that are hard on the wallet lol! But hey, I love each and everyone of mine.

Thank-you all for welcome and already GREAT info.
One thing I am noticing is that it is VERY hard to just have one of these beauty!!!
Thanks again!
