Clint Said: P.S. And my condolenses go out to the people that lived in Pearl Harbor 60 some yrs ago.

With you there Clint.

All else in this thread set aside, all reasons for using the bomb argued to the end of time....it certainly ended the Second World War.

Set your politics aside wikke...The Japanese brought the United States into the war; we used the most devastating weapon created to that point to end the war.

If you want to discuss tragedies, horrendous abuses and loss of life, study the Japanese campaigns in China and the Far East during that war.

It's amusing that the fattest, poorest states with the worst unemployment, lowest levels of education and most inbreed residents were also the ones who voted for Bush, huh...
It would be even more amusing if it had even the slightest amount of truth to it.

Awwww, Jeeeez, Serp!!!!!
Why you gotta bring truth into this "discussion"???? You're gonna ruin everything!

Just for the record, stem cell research is NOT illegal, not even embryonic stem cell research, despite the fact that embryonic stem cells have NEVER proven to be a viable medial intervention. The only successful stem cell treatments come from adult donors and cord blood. The only thing President Bush did was to recognize that there are some people in this country who would object to the creation and subsequent slaughtering of tiny humans for "research", therefore did not force them to support this practice with their tax dollars. Stem cell research, even embryonic, can still be conducted by private organizations using private funding.

Oh, and when you have to resort to name calling, you've already lost the argument.

I know that stem cell research isn't illegal, and i also know that embryonic stem cells haven't cured anyone of anything ever......yet, but Bush is making it a little difficult for it to advance. He's put limitations on stem cell resources that qualify for federal funding, and yes i know that Clinton started that. Last year he replaced 2 scientists on the bioethics council that were pretty outspoken about their support of stem cell research with 3 members that aren't so keen on it.

i'm not anti-bush, i just don't agree with his stand on that particular subject, and in my opinion, until you have a child or someone very close to you affected with an incurable life threatening disease, you have no idea what it's like, and you have no idea what you'd do to see your kid cured, especially when it's the only 1 you've got and can't ever have any more.

i'm well aware that it can be a touchy subject, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

You can Kiss My Sweaty, Salty White Ass!!

What a load of crap!!

How much education do you have to make a comment like that? I happen to live in California~ A "BLUE" state~ and this UNEDUCATED IDIOT BORN AND BRED in the SOUTH voted for Bush~ AND SO DID HER CALIFORNIA BORN AND BRED SPOUSE~ WHO HAPPENS TO HAVE TWO MASTERS DEGREES AND IS WORKING ON A THIRD!

My husband was in the Military for over 10 years~ the UNITED STATES MILITARY during the FIRST Gulf war~ my husband didn't go to actual "combat" but you bet your ass he fought for our country on global defense.

MY FRIENDS are over there now~

You don't have the right to make a comment like that.

I will agree with you there tat. Thank you Mike for bringing us back to what was supposed to be originally a post about Hiroshima. A terrible day, but you are correct in that it saved more lives by ending a long war that could have gone longer. It would be wonderful if we could never have wars again, but realistically, there's always going to be someone out there hungry for power that has to be stopped. If being realistic about defense is being a Savagette well then, there ya are! Wishing that all will be peaceful because you are against fighting won't change the way a killer thinks.

:laugh01:

Thanks Cheryl, I'm sure you just summed up the sentiments of about half the readers of this thread, if not more.

ATTA GIRL! I couldn't have said it better myself!

I saw this thread early on and knew that it was going to go nowhere good. I believe Princess has the right to her opinion... I just do not think she is using wisdom in expressing that opinion. Needless to say I totally disagree with it. This uneducated educator voted for President Bush... TWICE! Oh yeah... I am fat too... oh yeah and suffer from low employment... Princess... what a stupid generalization to make.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have two degrees, and I'm not fat or unemployed. Quite possibly make more than you do too.....although I would never generalize like that. I might add that my educated and retired after working forever Democratic parents voted for Bush.....I have to go send off an e-mail to my friend, the retired Marine, and a note to my other friend who's two grandsons are over there right now proudly supporting the Marines as well. Please excuse me....Gosh, I don't usually get this worked up!

Well gee, another thread where Princess opens her mouth and bashes the country, and the people who live in it.

I must say, I am thrilled with the responses so far.

Usually I don't have much to say on these things (not that I don't know what I believe and what I stand for), but I too am rather giddy at the majority of the responses. :crazy02: some wise snake people we have here... :)

Did none of you see the rolleyes? The comment was made and meant with a grain of salt.

But if you all want me to defend my statement.....

I never said that all of the residents of those states fell into all of the catagories but if you look up the figures, you will find that the states that take those titles were also red states. Once again, I was not saying that all Texans are fat but taking the tittle for the generally most over weight state is theirs as well as the fact that 3 of the top 20 fattest cities in the US are in Texas. I know a Texan family of fitness freaks and they'll be the first to tell you how many fat people there are in Texas. Not all red state voters are on welfare but excluding Puerto Rico on 11.3%, Mississippi (7%) had the worst statistic, not all red state voters are their mothers ½ sister and have 12 toes, but Virginia recently passed a law to allow a little more 'flexibility' in who you're allowed to procreate with.

Yes I do. It's called free speech and it's something that you and your countryfolk seem to think is valuable. Is it only Americans who are allowed free speech?

Actually tat2d1 some good news for you, on the news about 3 days ago there was an article about how scientists have had some excellent headway into treating and reversing Alzheimer's disease by using stem cell technology. They don't have the cure yet but they have made a big leap forward. As what they're doing is basically growing new neural pathways and assigning nerves to do particular jobs, perhaps the next thing they'll figure out is how to help people with SMA!!! Fingers crossed for your daughter.

And again, there were some rollie eyes attached to my comment people, that's how we indicate the intent of our post in a forum. If I'd used flames, side-step, shrugs, perhaps then you could think I'm attacking...but rolleyes indicates some sarcasm and that the comment is made in a bit of fun.

Oh, and Joe, ....I thought you put me on your ignore list

Here's some related reading for you.

Cynthia Tucker atricle

tat2d1, It's great that the Koreans are leaping ahead in this area of technology. Now that your insurance company has shelled out for a customised wheelchair for your daughter, perhaps the next step will be them shelling out for some treatment for her. Fingers crossed.

nice joe, you want to resort to childish namecalling, then fine. i know about how a bill becomes a law. ultimately it's the president who signs it, so in my eyes, he's ultimately resposible.

you're entitled to your views, as i am entitled to mine. i've never bashed you.
since you wanted to start it though, and since you're obviously looking for a fight since you replied to me 3 times before i had the chance to respond , allow to to tell you something.

joe, you are a prick. a little smart-allec, angst ridden prick. you pride yourself on being the grand bubble burster, coming on here constantly being sarcastic with people, and bashing people that don't share your point of view. maybe you think it makes you look cool, i think it makes you look like a prick. usually when people act the way you do, it's because they're trying to overcompensate for some other shortcoming, or perhaps some personal insecurity, probably triggered by something childhood related. so what is it joe? not able to get a girlfriend? mommy & daddy didn't give you enough attention as a kid, or perhaps someone gave you too much attention as a kid,if you get my drift.

i'm sure you'll reply in your usual manner, further proving my point.

go ahead and try to goad me into a fight, it won't work, i don't argue with people like you.

in the future if you want to disagree with me,fine. atleast have the decency to do it without resorting to name calling.

i guess if i get bounced for calling you a prick, it'll just show that if you pay to come here, you can insult those that don't. good day ;)

Gosh Princess, I missed the part where roll-eyes meant you were just joking. I guess us ignorant un-educated Mericans need a little less subtle hint than that. I personally take that symbol as being more sarcastic, not joking. A smiley face would indicate that a little better. Yes indeed, you are entitled to your opinion, but you might want to get all the facts before you start quoting. You might notice that many of the states with high welfare numbers are those closest to the border. Incoming illegals get welfare almost immediately upon entering the country, so that accounts for much of it. Fat is fat. World-wide the world is getting fatter. The only Swede I know here is no svelte little blond. She outweighs me by a good 60-70 pounds, so before saying that fat means stupid, look to your own space. I never knew that weight was any indicator of intelligence anyway. And new laws not withstanding, it's still illegal to have sex with your mother, sister, brother or first cousin. Everywhere! I believer the issue was over second cousins. Either way, I don't think this is something rampant all over the U.S. and certainly not in most of the states you listed. I can't recall a whole lot of discussion about brother and sister getting married anywhere except a recent case where the father was keeping all the children prisoner and had raped them. He's now in jail, so remember, some of us do read and can get facts too.

unfortunately princess, that's what alot of americans think. they like to use free speech when it's in their favor, but when someone turns the tables, they cry "you can't say that" or "you don't have the right to say that".
i'm an american and i can even recognize that fact.

some people seem to forget that over in the middle east, it's a whole different way of life, a whole different religion, a whole different set of beliefs. just because something works for us, doesn't mean it'll work for them.
why do you think the iraqi citizens are oh so thrilled about our presence over there? so thrilled that they kill our guys every chance they get. yeah, i know some are happy we're there, but most aren't. we're trying to force our way on them. they want us out of their country, but it'll never happen. any country we invade, we never fully leave.if anything, we build an embassy and keep people over there as "peace keepers", when really it's just a way to keep an eye out on them to make sure they're following "the rules". who are we to dictate how another country does things? we surely wouldn't like it if someone came over here and said" you have to do things this way now". we'd fight. that's what they're doing, fighting for their beliefs.
those "free" elections that were held, well, ALOT of the country didn't even get to vote in those elections.

please just a warning...if anyone here comes to our tables at Daytona, dont mention being in favor of Bush around my sister. talk about WWIII. LOL

she gets evil at the site of him. i tend to not even start conversations about it around her and i see eye to eye with her. i am not a big fan of Bush at ALL, but, i back my country 1 million percent on whatever it is we need to do to remain as great a country as we are. i just dont really agree with how we intend to go about keeping it that way.

this is one subject that can go on and on for days on end, especially with all the conflicting views we have on certain subjects pertaining to how to handle certain situations. LOL.

good luck to all...now lets get back to the battle! LOL
